murrays 0 #27 June 13, 2006 First, I quit drinking on November 3, 1980. Then, three years later I quit smoking cold turkey on May 3, 1983. I smoked for 16 years, pack + per day. I tried many times to quit over the years but what motivated me to quit was sitting in a restaurant in ZHills across from an old dude who had a tracheotomy and had to use one of those buzzer boxes that he held up to the hole in his throat to talk. By that time I was coughing and shit from smoking and this freaked me out so badly that I quit for good a few months after that trip. That sound is stil in my head. I don't think I'd ever have quit if I hadn't quit alcohol as well...but that's just me. Good luck and never quit trying to quit....it will be one the best things you ever do for yourself.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
mjosparky 4 #28 June 13, 2006 Hey NJ, One other suggestion. Go buy 2 or 3 boxes of toothpicks and have them on hand at home in your car and in your pockets. Anytime the urge pops up grab one.My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
VampireGirl 0 #29 June 13, 2006 I've been a non smoker for almost a month now and I am really enjoying it. I cut down gradually for 6 weeks before my stop date and then the withdrawal symptoms weren't that bad (I had been going through them for 6 weeks already, so it was a relief to get rid of them completely after two weeks of giving up) now I just want something to do with my hands and my mouth. Believe me, there are MUCH MORE fun and interesting things to do than smoke! Lollipops rock! xxxwww.sneale-create.com
Broke 0 #30 June 13, 2006 QuoteHey NJ, One other suggestion. Go buy 2 or 3 boxes of toothpicks and have them on hand at home in your car and in your pockets. Anytime the urge pops up grab one. I had talked with a family member of a patient I had transported for a cardiac Cath, and he said that he quit smoking with Wellbutrin and toothpicks. Not everyone needs Wellbutrin, but if you are one of the few who feels like they are losing a friend then you need to see a doc and get some.Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. NlghtJumper 0 #34 June 15, 2006 You all will be happy to know that 8 hours ago I put down my final cigerette. It took me a little while to work up to the mental part of it, but I am now offically, a non smoker. Yay for me. Slowfaller 0 #35 June 15, 2006 I'm in it with you. 4 hours ago I put my last butt out. Trying the lozenge, recommended to me by a coworker. If that doesn't work I'll use the patch or some heroin --"Someday you will die and somehow somethings going to steal your carbon" -MM

mccurley 1 #39 June 18, 2006 Started at 14 Quit at 38 and had been doing 50 a day for years I used the patch. It worked for me, along with the support of family and friends, and the motivation of wanting to be around to see my kids grow up. Now 52yrs old now. I enjoy every minute with my kids who are young adults now. I haven't had a bad cold or bad flu since I quit. You don't need to be a roket scientest to figure out there are more good points to quiting then bad, But it's not easy and be aware that after years of not smoking you may still get the ocasional urge to smoke again and will require a dose of both will power and common sense to keep off the evil fags. But above all IT IS WORTH ITWatch my video Fat Women http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRWkEky8GoI

DancesWClouds 0 #42 June 19, 2006 Quote Wellbutrin is the same thing as Zyban, FYI. Hee hee; I was wondering when someone was going to say that. I know (regarding Wellbutrin/Zyban) that power of suggestion is a very powerful thing. I had no idea that W/Z was supposed to help you quit, and I actually STARTED while on Wellbutrin. I'm on my way off the coffin nails right now. Two weeks ago, I cut down from 1+ pack a day to 10, and from 10 to 7 one week ago, and only 5 today. I can do it. I can do it!!!!!!!! . VampireGirl 0 #43 June 19, 2006 Yes you can! Keep at it, but make sure you set a date and stick to it. Even if it is a while in advance. I set my date 6 weeks ahead and started cutting down, by the end of the 6 weeks, I was actually LOOKING FORWARD to stopping! I was lying in bed last night thinking about how many thousands of cigarettes I must have smoked in my lifetime as a smoker ( 20+ yearrs ) and how nice it is not to be a slave anymore. Ok, granted it's only been a month, but I believe I can crack this! xxx ((((Lots of encouragement))))www.sneale-create.com
