Copying Movies

Recommended Posts

I own a VHS movie that I personally paid for about 16 years ago and now I want to make a copy of it on DVD before the tape wears out.

It keeps stopping the copy mode on the DVD/VHS recorder and telling me that the movie is copyprotected (or whatever) and won't let me copy the movie.

Is there a way around this? It's not like I'm renting movies from Blockbuster and stealing them to keep from having to buy them, for chrissake. >:(

The recorder is a Sony VCR/DVD Recorder (RDR-VX515).

Thanks in advance for whatever help you can provide me. :)

The only way I'd know how to do it myself is to use my DVcam to transfer the VHS footage to PC as raw video. Then master a DVD of that footage, and burn it. Probably not as simple as you were looking for. There may be an easier way to do it.

You'll have to find someone who has an older vcr... preferrably 10 years old or so... I'm not sure exactly when they started putting in the chips to prevent you from copying tapes...

I agree there... these are the same ones who are making it more difficult to copy dvd's and cd's now... I prefer to keep my cd's at home and travel with a copy to prevent damage or theft of my music....

I do that too. The worst one I got that I still have problems with my computer over is a Buddy Jewell CD that was Sony BMG. I still have a "Sony Rootkit" that my virus protection is constantly blocking, even though I used the supposed "cure" that Sony posted on their web site.
