Lindercles 0 #28 June 20, 2006 Quote Is it possible that Devo marked the beginning of the idea of the "cool geek?" Well, as we all know, the very definition of "cool" is disinterested. And DEVO certainly had no interest in being cool (in fact, they were through with it). So therefore through their desire to disassociate with that which they inevitably became, they pioneered the very thing with which they never desired to associate. SkymonkeyONE 4 #29 June 20, 2006 Mark Mothersbaugh, an original member of the band, still does a lot of movie scores and music production work. He did the music for the "Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" movie. Very clever stuff. I was a complete and utter Devo fan back in the late '70s

The fucked up thing is I didn't have to read that a second time--I knew what you were talkin' about. Man, we must have the same kind of brain damage! jdobleman 0 #32 June 21, 2006 There was a skydiving song that took off on Whip it: "When your count has gone too long, You must whip it. When your canopy looks wrong, you've got to whip it. Just whip it Whip it out." and other lyrics I've long forgotten. Too bad, would have made a good Chorus song. madjohn. Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.

They were a popular music group in the US in the late 1970s and early 1990s. Here's the wikipedia entry on them. Walt
Lindercles 0 #35 June 21, 2006 Oh Walt, you're way too nice. Mark Mothersbaugh would probably have said something like "read the whole thread before you ask dumb questions, mongoloid." edit: Note, this is not a PA, this a hypothetical projection of what someone else *might* say..... If you had asked, I probably would have, but the guy who posted that question is a really good guy. Walt
