Never go with someone else unless it is for a small amount of time, otherwise you will find yourself doing things you dont want to be doing and arguments can happen. Do it on your own, i always meet other people and do different sectors with new friends. I love it, i do what i want and go where i want. Traveling with another freind will take your freindship to a place it has never been to before. Do it on your own so it is your rules and you dont need to worry about what others want in their trip. Having someone you can go to if things get icky is also nice (do know where the US consulate is -- you might not need them, but you might not know the rules, either). Learn to speak enough of a language to find a restaurant, hotel, bathroom, train station, and say please and thank you. Especially those last two. Smile a lot. And do pay attention to local culture -- there are places in the world where a young woman is likely to be groped. Be ready for it, or don't go there. Really.
