A little taste of home.

I am a happy camper! I have lived in the deep south now for a little over 10 yrs. I love it here, BUT, there are some food items, not to mention some places that I dearly miss. With that said, I ran to the grocery store just a little while ago and do you know what they had???!! BLUEBERRIES!! Not just any blueberries! They are the blueberries from my old neck of the woods. Hammonton, N.J., which by the way is THE blueberry capitol of the world (its documented!!)...these fuckers are big and glorious!!! Public carries them for just about 8 to 10 weeks and oooh what a happy girl I am!!!!:)
So if you are a tranplant, what do you miss from your original area and do you have a means of getting that favorite item!!??

I have been transplanted from Ireland to Florida and there are sooo many things I miss, most of them with no way to find here in FL. But the things I can occasionally find are Irish Chocolate, brown sauce and sausages and rashers (but I have only found those in NY so far). And believe it or not, potatoes just are not the same over here either.

According to this: http://www.epodunk.com/slogans/agriculture.html

these that the 3 places that lay claim to this title

"Blueberry Capital of the World" - Cherryfield, ME
"Blueberry Capital of the World" - Hammonton, NJ
"Blueberry Capital of the World" - South Haven, MI

Of course all of this would be wrong. The best Blueberries grow wild in CANADA :P

Surprisingly on one place lays claim to this:
"Kumquat Capital of the U.S." - Saint Joseph, FL

People don't like Kumquats? :)

I miss the weather in southern california weather (but not right now because im actually sitting in costa mesa at my dad's house on leave!!!) . Going from living here for 24 years to living in louisiana just sucks [:/]
But I do love Nome. That at least makes it tolerable. Though not the bugs in the hangar at night. Something really REALLY has to be done about that.
I may not agree with what you have to say but i'll defend to the death your right to say it.
