Turns to what we do when we're not working. Around the table: Golf Golf Tennis Golf Skydive and run Marathons Cue silence. Skydiving. Really. Where you go with someone? "No, that's Tandem skydiving. I'm licensed, and go on my own." Cue "perfectly good airplane" comment. Well, it's a sport that I enjoy doing, and it helps me be more creative in life. Cue "wouldn't other things do that?" Yes, but I prefer skydiving. You play Golf. Why? Wouldn't pushing a ball into a little cup with your hands accomplish the same thing?" The female VC of the group then says, "Well, don't let anyone you're dating know. It's a turn-off to women." By this point, I was so pissed at them for being VC's in the first place, that the skydiving comments just shot me over the edge. "You know, I've dated women who find what I do only a small part of who I am. They accept skydiving the same way I'd accept tennis on your part. I wouldn't think, "Oh, she's a loser for playing Tennis," and I don't think any woman I'm going to want to date would think less of me because I'm a skydiver. Quite frankly, if they did, they'd be too closed-minded for me to date, anyway." With that, I ordered another beer. Why do some people have to believe they're superior just to make themselves feel good? Why are some people such idiots?_______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" After a while of being in this psort I stopped telling people about it, until they got to know me for me first. That's the way it just is. They thought I was a total fart off, until I described being an instructor, especially a tandem instructor as "well, I teach people how to skydive, on their first 2-3 jumps if I make a mistake, they die. They will fall to their death. So responsibility is something that is paramount in my life and is something that is definately not taken lightly." They got really quiet after that.
