NlghtJumper 0 #1 June 23, 2006 Ok, I just found out that I am PCS'ing to northern New York (Fort Drum). What is the skydiving like out there? Broke 0 #3 June 23, 2006 I was just checking out dirrections to the nearest Drop Zones to you. It looks to be at least a 3-4 hour drive to a couple of smallish ones with. Might as well take the extra hour to get to the RanchDivot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192
NlghtJumper 0 #4 June 23, 2006 Jesus! That sucks! I am use to having a dropzone like 5 minutes away from my house in Florida. I know, I know... "Suck it up Cupcake!" Broke 0 #5 June 23, 2006 I was actually discussing the saturation of Dropzones in FL as compaired to other states. I think we determined that it is a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing in that it gives you a lot of choice in where you can jump, and the dropzones have to really make you want to jump there. It is a curse, because it spreads all the jumpers around so the turnaround on loads durring a slow load is longer.Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. NlghtJumper 0 #6 June 23, 2006 True, but that is all I have ever known for a turn around, so I guess it never bothered me. As for makeing my want to jump there, at the time it was the only place I knew of, and turned out to be a very good choice. Broke 0 #7 June 23, 2006 Then again a slow day in FL is still almost as heavy as a busy day in NY or at least that is what it was like in Z-HIllsDivot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192
NlghtJumper 0 #8 June 23, 2006 Well, thats cool. But I dont think I'll be getting too much jumping in with a 4-5 hour drive. Talk about spending the weekend out there. I'll be too tired to drive back at night. NlghtJumper 0 #10 June 23, 2006 Just looking at the area dropzones, it looks like your right about just going to the farm. Plus there is showers and camping. So I would be good for staying the night. Doesn't look like anyone goes to 15k thou. NWFlyer 2 #15 June 23, 2006 That's practically in Canada and might be closer to DZs there... but the Canadians probably aren't going to bother opening a thread title "New York." Remster 30 #17 June 23, 2006 Quote"New York." Where is that? In Australia or something? We did get some New Yorkers at Nouvel Air once in a while. Depending where you are in the State, its maybe a couple hours. Took about 4-1/2 from Nouvel Air to the Ranch to give you an idea.Remster
misaltas 0 #18 June 24, 2006 Omg, I only have a few, and not what you're asking, but my first jump ever was a static line round from a uh-60 at ft drum. It cost me a couple bottles of JD to the crew chief. It was about two years before airborne school. Ah to be young and stupid.Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts
jumpinfarmer 0 #19 June 24, 2006 Malone isn't very far from FT Drum. Just remember the winter close, FT Drum is one of the coldest places in the country in the winter. BRRRRR!!!!
NlghtJumper 0 #20 June 24, 2006 I know, I have even been told that alaskans go to Drum for cold weather training. I have become accustomed to extreme changes in temperates. I grew up in the south and they sent me to Germany for my first winter. That sucked! jumpinfarmer 0 #21 June 25, 2006 If your at FT drum this winter you might be better suited to get a snowmobile. They also have about 400" of snow a year there as well.
