every story

Recommended Posts

My step-mother once said, "You don't have to tell every story that you know."

She meant that if you know an embarrassing story about someone, you don't have to bring it up in a crowd. I thought that was a cool saying when I heard it.

Another thing is the "but..." comment. The "I love him/her to death... but..." Just after the "but" comes the razor-sharp nails. Usually the speaker is very insecure and just likes to bring the target down.

I don't see any point to the negativity at all.

When people are kids in high school, it is important for to be "popular". After that, it is important to enjoy life. Putting up with other peoples crap can easily be omitted.

Is someone messing with my happythoughts?
Please don't ! Happythoughts are hard to find sometimes.:o

Not me. The targets are generally "competitors".
I heard a person do the "but..." thing this weekend.
Someone was saying how great person A was.
Person B felt the need to bring A down a notch.

I just think that a little courtesy makes the world a better place. B|

I've heard that in the South if you add "bless his/her heart" after "but," it's okay to slam them.

Example: "She means well, but bless her heart, she couldn't ________."
What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy
ones? -- Monday.

It's not ok, but that is definitely how it is done. :S

If someone is saying how wonderful another person is, the most insecure person will step in with a good "but..." comment. I don't think they realize how small it makes them look.

Another alternative is "That's nice..." It has the same usage as "f- you", but you can say it in a restaurant. ;)
Usually, a reply when a person is bragging in a condescending way.

"I wasn't able to come up with the cash for my new (product), so my parents gave me the $10K I needed."
"That's nice..."

So true!!! I've heard it a bunch! :D

I learned in business to never use the word "but". Instead, substitute the word "and", which will typically change the content and tone of the conversation. Maybe that's because it makes one think a little harder before blurting something out?

Many people are very petty & vindictive, especially females. It's unfortunate because it doesn't have to be this way. There is no need for darkness. They'll probably realize this at some point & hopefully try to work on it. ;) Have a good one!
