Can you name all of these DZ.commers?

Recommended Posts

Well can you? Can you tell me when and where this picture is from and what the importance of the picture is?

Well, the where will be very easy (duh), but tell me when and whats important.

How about this one?

Both of those pics have significance in the history of DZ.com and one of them has played a MAJOR part in the history of not only DZ.com, but of the sport overall. One gave way to the other and one of them grew into one of the largest boogies in the US to happen yearly. As well as being the biggest DZ.com boogie each year.

Yeah, but it has grown into something more since the additon. That picture was at the very first DZ.com gathering in Eloy. It was at the Memorial Day boogie in 2002. The following Holiday Boogie was the best one I've seen (although I've only been to two). However, DZ.com was much smaller back then and the posters knew more about each other and really honestly wanted to get together with each other. That was back when if you had 5 DZ.commers on the same dropzone at the same time it was a really huge deal.

Also, you left out AndyMan from your list.:)

The first picture was taken in the Fall of 2001, the second on Memorial Day weekend of 2002.

Just to give some hints.B|

I think I had about 40 jumps when the first pic was taken and *maybe* 120 when the second one was taken.:D

I work basically a swing shift...1700-0300 (or to 0430, depending on how the night goes).

Its not bad, except that its rough on the jumping or anything else that normal people do.

;)

Whats cool is the number of people that are still around in some form or fasion. There's a lot of tourists in skydiving, even more on DZ.com, but there are some people that have stuck it out and its still great seeing them post, even if we dont' get to jump together all the time.

Some have turned into long lasting friends who bring a big smile to my face every time we get to meet up in person. For many of us, big changes have happened over the past few years, some for the better, some for the worst, but all shared together.

There are a lot of people on DZ.com that take the site for granted, they dont' know what it was like back in the early days of the DZ.com forums. They didn't try to ask a question on wreck-dot only to get flamed so hard that they didn't even want to turn their computer back on.

They didn't know how big of a deal the Texas rules verses Cali-rules controversy was, and they don't know how big of a deal the very first DZ.com gathering with only 4 people was.

That's too bad, since those are some great memories and too many times people get lost now days in the arguements about crap that doesn't really matter and they forget about the people behind the screen names. They don't think about what sort of cool skydives they could be on with that person. They also probably don't realize that at a large boogie, they may have very well crossed paths with that person, thought they were cool, but didn't realize they had met.

People is what makes Dz.com so much fun and its what makes skydiving so much fun. It goes hand and hand. The more I jump and the more experience I've been able to get in this sport I realize how important the people are, regardless if you have 1 jump or 10,000 jumps, you are the sport.

Dave, I was there. but you got one thing wrong. you pluralized the word forum. I remember when dz.comwasaone page message board. I wouldn't be able to describe it but i remember it was just a little one page deal with a fewposts on it....and all in ONE forum;)

When I joined in May of 2000 I seem to remember 2 forums. Gear and Talkback (if it was called Talkback back then, I think it was).

Not that it mattered since I think there were about 10 posts a day total from everybody back then. I also think that the average jump numbers for the posters was somewhere around 100.

yep. about the post numbers.

I dont remember a 2nd forum at the beginning, but as you said. it don't matter.

the point of your thread is that at some degree we've lost the sense of community here.

I'm not sure I would stay here, if i were to find this site today.
I definitely wouldnt waste my timein bonfire:D:D

"But DDDDaaaaaaaave..I'm the base!" LMAO
Wooooosh there goes the safe aka aggiedave.;)

Ya know...those were some of the best times ever!:)Like most things that grow, they change as they evolve. Dropzone.com certainly isn't what it was 4 years ago, or even 2 nor should it be.
There are however, those that still hold to the initial concept. Community and friendship.
Dropzone.com still provides people an opportunity to connect. It is a place where you can interact with folks and always have someone willing to put you up when you land at their DZ, or offer a hand up when ya need one.;)
All things considered...it is still a good place to be.
