derleth 0 #1 August 3, 2007 can someone suggest how to shorten my PC bridle about 1"? of course, i'll have my rigger do it, but i wanted to hear suggestions of any good or bad ideas to use or stay away from. i had a rigger i trust tell me that shortening the bridle will fix the way my PC spins up like a slinky on more than 1/2 my jumps. he said taking off no more than 1" would keep it from spinning so much. it's just an annoyance rather than a performance thing, but it'd still be nice to remedy. thanx! ... koppel 5 #2 August 3, 2007 when your p/c is collapsed is there any of the kill-line still visible at the bridle at the p/c end. Often if the kill-line is a bit short then it will cause the bridle to spin up like that. If its the kill-line its a cheaper fix than the bridle.I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. ZigZagMarquis 9 #3 August 3, 2007 Just curious... is this a regular pilot chute, kill-line pilot chute, or a bungee pilot chute... and how old is it / there's a chance it may be time for a new pilot chute anyways if its getting old.
mark 107 #4 August 3, 2007 Quote[C]an someone suggest how to shorten my PC bridle about 1"? On most bridles, the easiest place to shorten is the section between the bag and the canopy attachment. But I'd be surprised if changing bridle length by 1" would make much difference if you were also changing the kill line length by the same amount. QuoteOften if the kill-line is a bit short then it will cause the bridle to spin up like that. I would have thought the opposite was true. The pilot chute needs to collapse enough that the skirt cannot catch air, and the shorter the kill line, the more collapse. Mark
shogo 0 #5 August 3, 2007 I suggest something else. I don’t think shortening bridle is going to solve the problem. I had the same issue and I know, it is annoying because it adds extra 2-3 min to packing time. You know the bridles are put together by putting two binding tapes together to make a hollow compartment for the kill line to slide back and forth (Examples of binding tapes include the material the pull up chord is made of). I used something thicker on one side of the bridle, and the best material for that is the square weave tape (Examples of that include the material that the toggles are made of), and the P/C does not spin up anymore. The bridle gets more rigid, so I guess that’s why it is less likely to spin up. But it adds tiny bit more packing volume. Try that. By the way they make these materials in black. aironscott 3 #11 August 4, 2007 I suggest that you make sure that your rigger wasn't trying to pull your leg. If they seriously stand by their suggestion I suggest that you find a new rigger. Aaron“God Damn Mountain Dew MotherFuckers!”
