boinky 0 #1 July 7, 2006 This (see first attachment) is the 2'nd rose bush put in THIS particular spot. The 1'st one died...and this one was healthy when I planted it. Anyone have any ideas of what's going on? There are 4 other bushes in this garden..spaced a good distance apart (see second attachment). The second bush WAS what the first picture is now. The other roses seem to be doing fine. The last picture is of one of the blooms on the first rose bush in the bed...not the dying bush. simplyputsi 0 #2 July 7, 2006 Bury your used banana peels at the base of them just below the surface. I'd do this by finishing up the peel, i.e. when you open a banana and your peeling the skin back just keep pulling it till it comes off. Then bury the 4 or so peels around the base. I'd say leave them there about a week or two and then replace. Good old natural remedy.Skymama's #2 stalker -

MF42 0 #4 July 7, 2006 I know absolurtey nothing about gardening and even less about rose bushes, but it just seems reasonable here to conclude that the ground in that particular spot has something in it that's bad for roses. Parasites? Chemicals? Something like that? Matt
boinky 0 #5 July 7, 2006 I applied rose fertilizer more than a week ago. I spray for bugs on a regular basis. I can't understand why everything in THAT spot is dying when the bushes on either side of it are doing fine. They all have the same soil, water, etc.Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? simplyputsi 0 #13 July 7, 2006 No vacation time left. Come on bananas are like 50cents a pound. You can get like 3 or 4 for a dollar. Or you could ask a neighbor or something. I dunno. I'd mail some to you but that might not set well with the postal people.Skymama's #2 stalker -
skinnyshrek 0 #14 July 7, 2006 Get some fresh top soil line it with some high nitrogen and plenty of water. Also some potassium will give it some nutrients Looks like you have scales9an insect) get some acephate with a gel base and spray your plants. If that doen't help go to lowes and replce plants every weekhttp://www.skydivethefarm.com do you realize that when you critisize people you dont know over the internet, you become part of a growing society of twats? boinky 0 #17 July 7, 2006 I have top soil and it's rained almost every day this week. What/where is nitrogen? I think the potassium is what simplyputsi was suggesting by the banana peels. Why a gel base acephate? Yeah...Lowe's and I are becoming good friends. I have another healthy rose bush already sitting in the wings waiting like the grim reaper.Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? skinnyshrek 0 #18 July 7, 2006 The acephate is the poison the gel suffocates the scales. At lowes they have 3 numbers on their fertilizer the 1st and 3rd make sure they are high 22-6-12 or 20-0-20 is a great fertilizerhttp://www.skydivethefarm.com do you realize that when you critisize people you dont know over the internet, you become part of a growing society of twats? Michele 1 #23 July 7, 2006 From the photo, it looks like that area is prone to "blackspot", a fungus which leaves black spots on the leaves and the canes, and can survive over the winter in the soil. It thrives in wet, loamy ground (as is shown by your photo), and can be splashed up onto the rose when watering. Some steps to take in handling blackspot: don't water overhead. Drip irrigate, or bubble irrigate. If you must water from overhead, do it in the morning when the sun will be able to dry the leaves (except you're in TX, and the humidity will exacerbate the problem; really avoid watering from the top). Get rid of all leaves which have it - go through the ground and make sure it is clean from dead leaves. Use a preventative fungicide, that you can find at your local gardening store. And plant more blackspot resistant bushes if this one needs to be replaced. There are many different, more resistant bushes with most of the same features that you can replace it with...but make sure you treat the ground before you replant... A good article on Blackspot Hope that helps- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
