We need some help finding an AUTISM SERVICE DOG. Any ideas?

Recommended Posts

Michele you are AMAZING!!!!!

Thank you SO MUCH for your help!! :)
We're going to 'borrow' a friend's dog on Monday (we hope, we have to call and ask) to video the boys around a big dog. Then the application is in the mail and on it's way!

We'll definitely check with University of Washington for possible help; they have an extensive psychology dept, and very extensive Autism research. They focus on younger kids, but we can always give it a shot! I'll be sending a request over to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well. ;)

There are so many HUGE corporations in Seattle; Starbucks, Boeing, MicroSoft, major national banks...we'll have this fundraiser up and finished in no time! B|

If you get approved for the doggies then post here with a paypal account or an alternate way that we can make donations to you. I realize that you didn't come here asking for money, just advise, but as Nightingale said... every bit helps.

Good plan! Say since we're stuck using Microsoft products anyway, it's the least they could do! ;)

GOOD LUCK with the dogs for the kids! They deserve it! You're a really cool mom! I hope everything works out for you.

Say when, and I'll send $20 your way. It's not much, but every bit adds up.

Oh geez, thank you much. :$ That is a very generous offer, we appreciate it!! I'll let you know when we get approval. I am hoping to do the 15 minute video of our boys with a friend's Golden Retriever today or tomorrow, then the boys' neurologist needs to fax a prescription for the dogs, then the application will be in.

We will post again when we receive an acceptance. :)

Thank you for the kind offer! When we find an organization that can take on our challenge, they will have a direct link on their website for donations. You just tell them who the donation is for (that's how they fund; you donate, 'in the name of' whoever you are fundraising for, and they then apply that to the cost of training the dog.) They are all 501c(3) charity organizations, so if you do donate, be sure to print out your receipt and keep it for your taxes! It is deductible. :)
Joe and I were in Portland all weekend at business seminars, and I asked a gentleman with a seeing-eye dog about his yellow lab. He said that guide dogs are $50,000-$75,000 each! :o:o:o I had NO idea. He said charitable contributions from organizations for the blind paid for his dog.

I felt kinda bad about griping about having to raise $27,000 for our boys' two dogs. :$:$

I looked into getting a "hearing ear service dog" few years ago.. but didn't... any way, it's a law that insurance company in this care your health insurance carrier have to pay the vet bills for the service dogs....

I bought a book on service dog and that was in there... but how you get insurance co to pay?? I guess you'll have to play phone tag with health insurance company...

It probably depends on the insurance laws in your state.

If you your friend falls through, let me know. I might be able to twist my daughters or brothers arm and arrange a dog for you.

I'm in Yakivega, daughter's eburg, and brothers South King County.
