SpeedRacer 1 #1 July 18, 2006 the mobile device, not the fruit. just went on their website & it's a bit overwhelming how many models there are. I'd like to be able to use the browser when I'm out somewhere. Scrolling around on my tiny cell phone screen is just too much of a pain in the ass. Also need to get some kind of calendar organizer. Anyway, there are something like 30 different models. WTF?? Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
tdog 0 #2 July 18, 2006 Yes... I have one... I manage all the ones that our managers have too. There are so many models because every carrier has one or two that works with them... So, pick your favorite carrier and then you have a few choices (2-3) per that carrier. What questions do you have? I can tell you that we use Blackberry enterprise server to sync our e-mail on the blackberries with the exchange server. It is a corporate solution - however it is so awesome to update an item on my blackberry calendar and watch it pop up on the desktop instantaneously... For the very first time in my life - after having 4 different PDAs - I actually use my PDA! Contacts, e-mail and calendar all in one place... For an example, if I need directions - I just e-mail myself the mapquest directions, no more printing out stuff...
mdrejhon 8 #3 July 18, 2006 Hi, I am one of the moderators at www.BlackBerryForums.com and have maintained a BlackBerry FAQ at www.BerryFAQ.com and have helped skymama enjoy her BlackBerry better. (She can chime in a little too) Unlike in the past, there's a lot of cool stuff nowadays for BlackBerry such as MP3 ringtones, photo viewing, Google Maps Mobile, etc. RIM, the maker of BlackBerries, have a new fancy consumer website, at www.DiscoverBlackBerry.com ... At the moment, for now, if you want the best, the main models you need to worry about are the newer models such as the 8700 or 7130. So let's simplify things, for today's models... If you use TMobile or Cingular and want a full QWERTY keyboard, the best model currently is the 8700 series (or the newer 8707, on limited carriers). If you use Verizon and prefer a smaller phonelike device, don't mind a SureType keypad, which is better and faster than tapping on a regular cellphone keypad, then the 7130e is the best model to get at the moment. You can even use BroadbandAccess on as 7130e, by connecting the BlackBerry to the laptop to use it as a modem for high speed Internet. (an additional fee a month though) Both the 8700 and 7130 also have the fastest web browsing experience as well -- somewhat faster than a Treo 650. (The Treo's are also nice devices in themselves, albiet not as reliable as BlackBerry is -- and the newer models of BlackBerries are a big improvement!) SpeedRacer 1 #4 July 18, 2006 One of the things I'm thinking about is: Do people use the blackberry as their cell phone?? It looks a little big to be carried around. or do you typically have a cell phone AND a blackberry? It looks a little big to be carried around. or do you typically have a cell phone AND a blackberry? I use it for both. The newer models (I have a 7105t) are a bit less "brick-like." That said, for any call more than a couple minutes, I'm using my bluetooth headset."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
wildblue 7 #6 July 18, 2006 I have a treo 650, and have played around with some of the crackberries. It's a great PDA, but usually it sucks as a phone. It's like holding a brick to your head to talk. Get a decent headset (wired or blue tooth) and you'll be happier. I think my next phone might be that 8125 that cingular has...it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
SpeedRacer 1 #7 July 18, 2006 I don't talk on the phone often enough to walk around in public looking like a f&*king borg. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
NWFlyer 2 #8 July 18, 2006 QuoteI don't talk on the phone often enough to walk around in public looking like a f&*king borg. No one says you have to wear it all the time! I agree that's kind of dorky. Unless I'm expecting a call I know will run long, I'll just answer with the phone directly and switch to the headset if it looks like a longer call. It *is* handy for running through airports dragging bags behind you while talking on the phone, though. Plus, you look kind of nuts when people see you talking to yourself.
