matt1215 0 #1 July 23, 2006 I haven't owned an automatic for about 8 years now. I just feel more in control of the car, but it sadly seems like sticks are going out of style and they're getting harder to find . My parents drove 2 sticks for years, but went automatic in the 90's
FallinWoman 1 #2 July 23, 2006 I learned to drive a stick when I was 21 and my father decided I needed to be able to drive my friends' cars. He knew how much we liked to go to bars and such....so he taught me on his Alfa. I cannot believe he let me kill that car so many times. I then owned a stick for many years. I do not anymore, but I miss it sometimes. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

jumpchikk 0 #4 July 23, 2006 Yes, I can drive and own a manual transmission automobile. My first car was a manual and my Jeep was a manual. I've only had one automatic. I hated that car.
skydivermom 0 #5 July 23, 2006 We've always had at least one automobile that is a stick, and a few times both of them were. I abasolutely love driving a stick. I remember learning to drive our first one. SpeedRacer 1 #6 July 23, 2006 If you rent a car in America, you pretty much ONLY get an automatic. I'm a city boy, so I've always driven automatics. I may need to get testicular implants or something. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
MagicGuy 0 #7 July 23, 2006 I also own and drive a stick. I have an automatic and I never drive it. Stick is the way to go. Plus you have a better chance of winning a race while driving a stick
Elisha 1 #8 July 23, 2006 My parents have always owned sticks, my first two cars were sticks and I usually drive one about once a year to make sure I remember how. I was driving my parents '78 Ford Truck - a 3-speed on the column (shift from the steering wheel) - which was tough (probably more the bad release point of the clutch which I'm sure needed replacing). My dad would not let me take the DMV test until I passed HIS test.
SpeedRacer 1 #9 July 23, 2006 also you have a better chance of winning a race if you have one of those steering wheels with the buttons that can release oil onto the road or fire rockets or turn the car into a submarine & shit. karenmeal 0 #14 July 23, 2006 I prefer driving a stick shift.. as long as I'm not in stop and go traffic! And since Seattle traffic sucks and I'm in it 5 days a week... I'm jonesin' for an automatic. I was telling someone the other day that I got a car that was a stick shift in highschool just to impress the boys. Ya know.. Hey baby.. watch me work this stick shift. Raarrrr! I like manual transmissions they are great for bad weather etc. and Auto bikes are for organ donors and pussies
Scoop 0 #22 July 23, 2006 Autos just take away so much of the control from the driver, I hate it! If I wanna cruise down a steep hill, I put it in a lower gear and ride it down using the engines drag. If I wanna scream into a bend and left foot brake I can. If I wanna heel & toe down the box I can! Of course if I want to poodle along I can just put in top as well. Its really not much more effort to drive a manual in my opinion, takes more co-ordination, but not more effort
warpedskydiver 0 #23 July 23, 2006 I was in a mustang coming down from the top of Mauna Loa and the idiot driver from the innerc ity of chicago chose an auto to drive because he did not know how to drive a stiick. On the way down I made him puul off and let me out to walk or catch a ride as he would noty shift down into first or second fro the decent. The smell of burning brakes can really help you to decide. I wonder how long it took him to pay that rental off after he crashed it when the brakes failed and he used the back of a tour bus for an out.
matt1215 0 #24 July 23, 2006 Good stuff, glad to hear so many ppl like to drive sticks. Definitely understand automatics being better in big cities. I seem to attract women who can't drive a stick and have a very limited desire to learn . My ex-so got so annoyed with me when I drove her car, shifting the automatic and running the low gears. Between this and her really scary driving , we just started taking my car everywhere. You ladies are welcome to drive my stick anytime .
