Spatula 0 #1 July 26, 2006 I just start thinking about training...what I'm going to do..how heavy I'll lift, the exercises I'll do....how far I'll run... I guess I'm weird about it...but I envision what I want to achieve and exactly how I'm going to do it...maybe I have a problem.... 30 minutes and counting... sorry for the rant.... AggieDave 6 #3 July 26, 2006 Yup, I do that. Not much anymore, since I barely workout anymore (which needs to change), but I do that. Certain music, certain attitude to get in a certain mindset before walking into the gym. It makes a HUGE difference in my workouts.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Darius11 12 #4 July 26, 2006 I used to workout but to me it was like going to hell for 2 hr. I always see it like running there is no fun for me just work. You will most likely do much better then I ever did just for your positive attitude alone. Wish I felt the same as you I probably wouldn’t be the fatass I am if I did.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

I always train with music. When I put my headphones on I just shut out everyone else in the gym, on the road, etc...Puts me in a place where I can focus and do my thing!!! Spatula 0 #6 July 26, 2006 It doesn't have to be in a gym or on a track/trail. Being "in-shape" can be done a ton of ways. Find someone active that you enjoy and do it. Tennis, racketball, swimming, mountain biking, ultimate frisbee, etc.... Hell site seeing, hiking, climbing...there's got to be something active you enjoy doing...find it.... AggieDave 6 #7 July 26, 2006 QuoteWhen I put my headphones on I just shut out everyone else in the gym One of the biggest pet peeves for me in the gym is to sit around and talk. If you want to do that, go get a cup of coffee or a sammich or something...get the hell out of the way and get the f*** off the weight bench. Its even worst when someone tries to come up to me and chat with me. I don't know you, I'll be happy to meet you AFTER my workout. I didn't come to the gym to chat, I came to lift weights. Heavy weights. So if you must be near me, give me a spot. Its easier in the winter to be left alone, it seems though. Headphones on and knit cap pulled down over the headphones for some reason keeps people from talking to you. Take the cap off and people look at you and go "oh, I want to talk to him..." WTF?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Or how about reading a book between sets...GET THE FUK OUT THE WAY!!!!! WOOO!! LEG DAY STARTS IN 21 MINUTES!
AggieDave 6 #9 July 26, 2006 It's chest/Tri day for me...I *WAS* going to sleep for 3 more hours (since I work nights) but the jerkoffs waiting for the bus near my house decided to wait on my front porch and it woke me up...so my times are off. It'll probably be 2 hours and I'll be at the gym.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Jaden 0 #10 July 26, 2006 I do too, but more with cardio than strength training. I only get amped with weights when it's time to increase resistance. Crank up the tunes & I'm good to go.
Spatula 0 #11 July 26, 2006 Just think about said "jerkoffs" right as you take the bar off the rack....I suspect a few strong reps will follow..... Inconsiderate bastages!
Spatula 0 #12 July 26, 2006 Cardio + Music = awesome combination. It started for me in the military @ indoc. First time I ran to cadience/jodies. I had fun screamin the jodies that it made me forget the running. Since then I've built my playlists for specific types of runs. It helps me control my pace a lot easier. LSD runs I tone down the music, sprints, and intervals I alternate songs/lengths etc...
Jaden 0 #13 July 26, 2006 Yea me too, the MP3 player was a truly great invention. In the summer here, it is just too hot for running. I use an indoor bike trainer; it's really cool to be able to do cardio 24/7 in the A/C without leaving the house. Whatever we do, we have to take care of ourselves. LisaM 0 #14 July 26, 2006 No. I am a whiner. Do I have to? Working out sucks! Even if I am planning a simple bike ride! I get amped AFTER the work out ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
psipike02 0 #15 July 26, 2006 No i get amped up too, but it also depends on what mood i'm in as well. My music helps. I find that now if I dont workout with music, I can't focus. If I lose motivation, i regain it by looking at my goals and what I wanna look like...Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
swedishcelt 0 #16 July 26, 2006 I think this is a guy thing, this amped stuff. I usually get annoyed at the time it takes. I do look forward to it but it's for the stress release or the relaxation and good feeling that comes afterwards and the results in the mirror. Sometimes I am so stressed out that getting out and jogging/ walking for 6 or 10 feels great.

Spatula 0 #18 July 26, 2006 QuoteIf I lose motivation, i regain it by looking at my goals and what I wanna look like... That's great! I take pictures routinley, usually every other month. That way I can critique my progress and see what needs more work etc...You would be amazed if you actually take pictures of yourself (half-naked/naked, your choice). You see your body everyday so you won't notice the progess as easily. By taking the pics, you can really seem your improvements and say "holy shit"--I fuk'n rock" or "I'm sexxxxxxxxxxyyy", etc. Best part is getting someone to take them for you... Plus I log all my training (cardio/weights) to also track my progress. It really helps me a lot.

It's a bit annoying at times, but it really does show your progress, sticking points etc..if your workouts are getting boring it's easy to identify trends (doing the same workout, same order, same weight, same run, distance,etc...) You don't even have to be really anal about it, start by jotting down what you did when you get home, try and remember how many sets/reps you did and approx weights, run data etc....
