Icon134 0 #1 July 26, 2006 So in the past two days it appears that my firewall software has caught what appears to be a Denial of Service attack... This is what it called it "MS_ANI_File_DoS" and whom ever it was attacked this port 1045. it happened 22 times exactly on both days... (though yesterday it attacked my desktop, whereas today it attacked my laptop...) it also showed a IP address and a domain name... I use a third Party firewall software... (in lieu of windows built in firewall) Mostly I'm curious about what it is (if there are any gurus here) you can direct me to reading material if you want... PhreeZone 20 #5 July 26, 2006 IP's are fairly easy to spoof, but if you want to you can look up the ISP on www.arin.net and report it to their provider. This can trigger an investigation that will determine if any fraud/abuse is happening form that IP.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Slappie 9 #6 July 26, 2006 You really want to find out what's going on. Check out PeerGuardian 2 it's a personal IP blocker. Mostly used in the P2P community to block RIAA & MPAA known contractors from gaining access to your IP for investigations etc.. etc.. It's also got what they call a spyware blocker. You would be amazed at what's going on in the back ground when you're surfing around. Guest #8 July 26, 2006 Quote So in the past two days it appears that my firewall software has caught what appears to be a Denial of Service attack... Hack 'em back and have some good 'ol fashioned war games!! Well, if you are on Windows XP Service Pack 2, you are not vulnerable to this type of attack. For more info on it, go here http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/attack_sigs/o281.html. If you are on SP1, well, it's a pretty nasty attack which would more or less keep make your computer crash... Thanks to Microsofts SP2, we are all safe....now if you were on a MAC, lol, there wouldn't be this problem...but oo, the PC vs MAC war....
