When they "mark thier new turf" to they typically scrape thier paw around the spot (ya know, like they do in thier box)?? You can neuter when he weighs at least 3 pounds. While cats typically are neutered around 6 months, this can be done much earlier, as long as he weighs enough. There are a lot of reasons that a cat might pee outside their box. Have the vet check him for a UTI, because that's one of the most common causes. He may not like the litter in his box, have trouble getting in and out of his box, or think his box is too close to his food or doesn't give him enough privacy.
 Michele 1 #73 July 21, 2006 In addition to Kris' comments, another very common reason is he's making himself "at home". Making sure things smell like him. And, he's 2 1/2 months old - he might've had an accident. Be aware, though, unless it's definitely spraying (and urinating is not spraying - that's the marking that goes on...very different scent, activity, and body position in that), you might not want to get him neutered this early. I recommend that one wait until their animal is at least 6 months old if possible, because their bodies need the time to mature and grow, and the hormones contribute to that. However, if he is spraying (and 2 1/2 months is a bit early, although not unheard of), it might be time. I caught Simon playing with his tweeter at about 4 months, and so got him fixed ASAP, earlier than what I'd've liked. He never did spray, and he is a little on the short side, but stocky and well defined and formed, so no real damage done. I think likely it was just an accident...he's still a baby, and they do have accidents. I've shown him the litter box several times, and have seen him venture into the room on his own, but it is a big house, and he is so tiny, maybe he got lost? It is rather large with a top on it (because our dog like to eat cat poo ) and the box isnt close to his food or anything. He was at the vet on Tuesday and got checked out and is in good health. I've shown him the litter box several times, and have seen him venture into the room on his own, but it is a big house, and he is so tiny, maybe he got lost? Or maybe he got too excited, as we were playing with him while he was up on the bed. Who knows maybe he's mad cuz we havent named him yet my body, my choice
 goodnplentygirl 0 #75 July 21, 2006 Yeah, I am going to wait until he is 6 months, just beacuse that is what I have always done in the past with our animals. He most likely did just have an accident, but I will watch him just incase. I cant get over how cute he is, he was playing last night and just doing the cutest things, I wish I had my camera out. I just wish our other cat would warm up to him.... my body, my choice
 Prev 1 2 3 4 5 6 Next Page 3 of 6 Join the conversation You can post now and register later. Nightingale 0 #68 July 21, 2006 Is he neutered? If not, he may be just marking his new turf.

Nightingale 0 #71 July 21, 2006 Quotenot yet, he is only about 2 1/2 months old.
