I'm bored...

Have they done their summer reading assignments yet? That's always a good place to start!

I just went to school orientation this morning. School starts on Monday and we're not even in a year-round school system! :S

Check the school's website to see if there is an assignment. My kids go to 2 different high schools and they both had books to read. I'd be surprised if your son didn't have some kind of reading assignment.

although that is important... I'm sure it won't go over too well with teenage boys... I was once a teenage boy and since we didn't have videogame systems at home... when I wasn't @ some sort of summer camp or other trip (which was almost continous throughout summer...)

we could be found 30-40 feet up in the sugar maple trees or 10-15 feet up in Apple Trees... (honestly Its amazing I didn't break more then a couple of bones growing up... :D)

I also would go biking as a teenager... my parents lived in rural area and the roads weren't too busy/we could really bike long distances...

Well, in my house I don't care if they like doing it or not, if they have a school assignment over the summer they are going to complete it! ;)

I understand... honestly I don't remember having summer reading "assignments" I probably did but I would never have read them. :$ I didn't like reading... :| strange considering I like it now... B|

and honestly I typically didn't have time in my teenage years... my softmore/junior year of HS I went from Helping out @ Girlscout camp (My mother was in charge of the camp and my brother and I were generally in charge of entertaining the sons of the GS leaders) to Boy Scout Leadership Training Program (I was on Staff... which is why now adays I have no problem presenting things... cause I taught kids how to cook over open fires with out using utensils one year... B|) to a 4-week trip to Philmont Scout reserve (backpacking thing) in NM (we took Amtrack from Chicago) then did Boyscout Summer camp... after that Marching Band Started up... and that kept me occupied until School started...

damn... I was a busy boy growing up... :D

I don't remember ever getting a summer reading assignment. Not once.

My teenage summers were largely occupied by cruising around town with buddies on our bikes, building model planes and spaceships, reading a novel about every two to three days, and improvising small explosives.

I really can't recommend the explosives.:|

Graduated in 73. Never ever had a summer reading assignment. And we had the entire summer off; Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Ah yes, good times. Ditto to all those things, and a few I won't mention in case the statute of limitations hasn't run out yet.

I never had the assignment either. Florida schools are all about their FCAT state standardized test and schools getting A grades so they can get more funds. That's the reason they are going to school so early in the year, so they can get more teaching in before the test in the spring. A law just got passed though that the schools can't start sooner than 2 weeks before Labor Day. The kids in our county also get a Fall break in October which I think is totally ridiculous!
