Elisha 1 #2 August 10, 2006 Good topic. In America, we often use friend far too liberally when we really mean 'acquaintance'. Not that there is wrong with wanting many people to be your friend - it is just that it is inaccurate and many people really are acquaintances and not friends. RkyMtnHigh 0 #3 August 10, 2006 This topic came about from a recent convo I recently had with a true friend of mine and she and I agreed that we don't have a LOT of friends, we have a lot of acquaintenances...our true friends can be counted on one hand, perhaps. Not sure how to define it though except that acquaintenances are glad to see you when they do or happy to have vacation trips with you etc...but true friends are 24/7...thru all of the good and bad. _________________________________________
Squeak 17 #4 August 10, 2006 i have very few people I call friends, I also had thsi convo just the other day. Friends are there for you no matter how long since you last saw them Some people i call friends are somtimes not seen for several years at a time, and when we do see each other it's like we have never been apart. Friends actually care how you are when they say Hi how are you.Actually when I say that I care even if they are not a "friend" otherwise I say Hi You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?

Since I'm rarely home, that implies an involvement in my life that an acquaintance does not yet have. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday. Few friends many acquaintances. "Friends" is normally used loosely but I don't quite agree there is some psychological reason for it.My reality and yours are quite different. Me too. I pick and choose very wisely who I let into my "inner circle". I have been wigged out on one too many times by so called friends and I take it very slowly when building a friendship. I do have several people that are acquaintenances and I like to keep them that way. Bobbi BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude. The ones that I get suck in some airport nearby with no car and no hotel, and if I called them they'd come running. I have a large group of peeps here in the ATL I call friends. We play together, we help each other move, carpool to DZs, share food, etc. I have an even larger group of acquaintences. Those are the ones that I would even call friends, but we've never really gotten that close.Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #
 cocheese 0 #12 August 10, 2006 An acquaintence might help you move.
