ya that was my buddy he tib fibbed b/c his instructor had him flare just a tad to high........(20 feet) and he paniced and let up on his flare and then didn't PLF.

LOL that is what you can afford when there are eight people with money to blow. we rented a......mansion for lack of a better word for 4 days. Its in Little Yosemite Village just outside the valley. We all agreed to go back next year and rent it again b/c it was so fuckin awsome. i think we are hiking the trail to the top of upper yosemite falls next time.

So, how many miles is that hike to half-dome?

17 round trip. Took us about 12 hours with stops along the way at nevada falls and the top. SOOO worth the pain!!

From what I remember almost twenty years ago, the upper Yosemite hike is only around 6 R/T.

really now? I'll have to let my brother know that. we all thought it was a full day hike.

My brother and I have been talking about backpacking the northern section of the park for years!! But I might be up for climbing half dome again. Thats one of the coolest things I'v done. certainly on my top 3!!

Ohhh, that's a rather brutal day. 15 miles is about the most I've done in a day, and I didn't like that. And I suppose there's a lot of elevation gain along the way too, adding to the difficulty. I think I would turn that one into a more leisurely two-day backpack hike.

But the problem with overnight hikes, is that as soon as you add a tent, sleeping bag and food, you up your pack weight by about 20 lbs... Ugh.

You should try it with a full set of vintage skyding gear....aaaaccckkkk

I really hate those freaking cables... on the last part of the walkup, I kept expecting some doofus to slip and come tumbling down the cable bouncing off the posts.
