lawrocket 3 #1 March 15, 2005 I don't know why I liked the movie. But I do. Actually, I loved it. I got to sit down with my wife son and watch it over dinner. Sure, it's the same old tired plot of Poor boy, rich girl, summer thing, parents don't approve, etc. But it was done with such a sweetness, such personality, that I found it easy to identify with that movie. Above all, the male lead character kept his promise. I was especially moved by James Garner's performance. Such niceness, personality, and ultimate sadness and mercy on his fate. I didn't cry when Old Yeller got shot. I didn't cry when Bambi's mother got shot. But I cried towards the end in a way I haven't cried since I last saw the "Baby Mine" scene in Dumbo. Just nice people in the movie. Despite my unwillingess to see that movie, I have to recommend it. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Yes, I'm admitting on a public forum that I cried. James Garner did such a fantastic job as well as Rachel McAdams. It's predictable and somewhat unrealistic, but I loved it. One of my favorite quotes from it: QuoteI am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who's ever lived: I've loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
 VanillaSkyGirl 6 #21 April 25, 2005 You're creeping me out, Val, because I almost bumped this myself. I decided against it because I was annoyed and embarrassed at how emotional this movie made me. I had just rented (Blockbuster Movie Pass) and seen this movie on Thursday and again on Friday because it left all these emotions inside of me that kept wanting to come out, again. The chemistry and love shared between two people, who are from such different worlds, just cannot be explained, nor ignored. This movie captures what it feels like to truly love someone with all your heart, throughout the years. Love that binds, despite differences in background, throughout life's changes and even when the physical/mental parts of two people are weakening. It may seem sappy, but to me, it was quite the realistic movie. Life and love is not easy. To have eternal love, despite the difficulties of life is truly to have lived an emotionally fulfilled life. Vallerina 2 #22 April 25, 2005 That is weird!!! QuoteIt may seem sappy, but to me, it was quite the realistic movie. I think there were just a few things that weren't....more towards the end, but I don't want to give anything away! QuoteLife and love is not easy. Yup, and it showed that fantastically! I bought the book, and I'm going to read it on my way to CA! It really is moving. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
MGSkyFlyer 0 #23 April 25, 2005 Totally agree, you have to read the book. It was awesome! and if you have some time read The Wedding...not really a sequel but it has to do with Noah and Allie.

Bring along tissues for your plane ride, Val. Amazingly, it was a guy who introduced me to this book a few years ago. He had read it more than once. Remind me to introduce you to him while you're at Perris. I also have 'The Wedding' sitting right here beside me. A patient loaned it to me, so I better get busy and read it before she thinks I'm never giving it back. ;^) Good movie. Better book. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
