ACMESkydiver 0 #1 August 16, 2006 I want to get something for my daddy for his birthday tomorrow. I wanted to get him banjo lessons, but there's nobody near him (Long Beach, WA). ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Did you call all the guitar shops in the area? Did you check some bluegrass forums and ask around there? You might want to ask those questions on a couple of musician/bluegrass forums. Man, I would really love to learn the Banjo, I need to get better at Guitar first. I have a 1 instrument at time rule. Trumpet and Harmonica down, guitar I'm working on...next will probably be the banjo.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." ACMESkydiver 0 #3 August 16, 2006 Yes I thought about calling music shops in his area, but ya gotta understand how TINY Long Beach Washington is...it's just a blip on the map. It's a tourist town, and it is so terribly limited. I will see if I can find a music shop that's within 20 miles or so. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. ACMESkydiver 0 #5 August 16, 2006 I can't find a music school anywhere...I'll keep looking though. Somebody has to teach this thing somewhere! I'm looking through some websites a friend passed along, too. www.washingtonbluegrassassociation.org. Still looking! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. shall555 0 #8 August 16, 2006 If he's a fan of old-time ( clawhammer-style ) banjo, this guy is more than worth a look. He has the cleanest, most beautiful technique I've heard. I have one of his instructional DVDs and it's pretty good: David Holt For Scruggs style, I'm sure there are bunches. Check out Musicians Friend for some of theirs. SkydiveStMarys 0 #9 August 16, 2006 Ask around at the local schools. A music teacher or even a student, for that matter, might know or better yet be able to play!BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude.
popsjumper 2 #10 August 16, 2006 I was going to suggest "Deliverance" or "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" but after reviewing them again, I find the video very distracting for learning banjo. My reality and yours are quite different.
