I am not a mechanic but if you had everything changed and it still is acting like a dead battery then I would think it was your alternator. Get your car started take it to a autozone and have them run a free diagnostic on it.

Alternator was my first throught too... easy to change that out yourself. And not all that expensive a part either.

I still have to pay for them looking at it. And they should have caught this the last time.

Im a single working mother. Last thing I have time to do is figure out what a voltmeter is, or find a fuse :D I think they should cover this cause they didnt get it right the first time. I know nothing about how to fix a car and I want to keep it that way, I need advice on how to be aggressive enough to get them to cover it since they didnt do it right before. :)

they couldnt catch it last time because it probably wasnt the problem.. letting a car sit for 24 hours with a voltage draw on the cd player will kill it.,.. why did it last so long?

a short will draw the battery down quick. it wouldnt have lasted weeks.

and im willing to bet you 10$ that one of your kids slid change down in the cd player hole. and that is what is shorting it out.

but of course, all everyone sees is 90$ to do something i dont understand, means they are ripping me off..

ask the manager to explain it to you.

if people bring there cvar into me, I will be damed if I diagnose a short for free. it aint happenin. it takes a little skill and a bit of knowledge to be able to do that.

Okay this starts at dublin, my battery was dead so I got a brand new battery, no big deal.... fast forward to around skyfest time. My car dies again, I get it towed to the dealership and they tell me the battery is dead and some lines were needing replaced. I know for a fact I asked them several times are they sure thats all, cause the battery was only a few months old. They said yes and therefore charged me I think around 500 bucks for a new battery and the three cable line thingys. Now we come to this week. Car is dead again, it acted the same way it did the previous times. They come get it, and low and behold, they say its the cd changer, that its got a short. They want to charge me 90 bucks to disconnect the cd player and charge the battery back up since according to them its something different. I think thats not right considering that was the problem before and they didnt find it and just charged me for a battery I did not even need to replace. Am I right? Do I have reason to deny paying some of the charges?

The audio system putting a drain on the battery when the car is off is a pretty common problem.
The best thing to do is replace or at least disconnect the audio system.

Buying new batteries and keeping the same audio system will just continue to drain the battery.

I know this won't help you now, but the thing to do when the first battery went dead was to take it to an auto parts store and ask them to test it. They test and charge it for FREE. They will tell you if it is 'just drained' vs 'not able to hold a charge'.

Oh and to disconnect the audio, there are about 4 screws on the side covers of the dashboard module that need to be removed. Then there are several mounting screws to take out. Then pull out the audio unit(s) and unplug the connectors. It's not hard and all you need is a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
