Car issues

Recommended Posts

Okay this starts at dublin, my battery was dead so I got a brand new battery, no big deal.... fast forward to around skyfest time. My car dies again, I get it towed to the dealership and they tell me the battery is dead and some lines were needing replaced. I know for a fact I asked them several times are they sure thats all, cause the battery was only a few months old. They said yes and therefore charged me I think around 500 bucks for a new battery and the three cable line thingys. Now we come to this week. Car is dead again, it acted the same way it did the previous times. They come get it, and low and behold, they say its the cd changer, that its got a short. They want to charge me 90 bucks to disconnect the cd player and charge the battery back up since according to them its something different. I think thats not right considering that was the problem before and they didnt find it and just charged me for a battery I did not even need to replace. Am I right? Do I have reason to deny paying some of the charges?

Just disconnect the wires for the CD changer, or better yet remove the fuse for it. Then get somebody to jump-start the car and drive it for about 30 min. to charge the battery.

That will be $89.00, please.;):P

Wow you paid $500 for a new battery and cables?

it was those 3 cables that go into the big center thing, not battery cables. Plus the charge to look at it.

and do it yourself.

muahahahaaa I still forget which side my gas tank is on and Ive had the car for 4 years

HAHAHA, I used to love it when people, especially nice young women typically tried to descrive something to us. Especially when they were describing a noise thay heard and try to immitate it then get all embarrased.

If you got a voltmeter measure across the battery to make sure its getting an adequate voltage while running to keep it charged. Other than that you need to track down the power drain, I think I reead you say it was the radio. As suggested try unplugging the fuse for the radio. Its an nice nondramatic way of testing thats what the problem is. Might be a bit of trial and error but its cheap way to have a go at fixing it yourself :)

I still have to pay for them looking at it. And they should have caught this the last time.

Im a single working mother. Last thing I have time to do is figure out what a voltmeter is, or find a fuse :D I think they should cover this cause they didnt get it right the first time. I know nothing about how to fix a car and I want to keep it that way, I need advice on how to be aggressive enough to get them to cover it since they didnt do it right before. :)

I am not a mechanic but if you had everything changed and it still is acting like a dead battery then I would think it was your alternator. Get your car started take it to a autozone and have them run a free diagnostic on it.

As stated above, first ask to talk to the Service Manager, and see what they may be willing to work out for you. If that does not work, pay them via credit card (basically in order to get your car back from them) but also inform them that you plan to immediately dispute the charge with your credit card company. This will usually get their attention very quickly. If necessary, take it up with the owner of the business, send him/her a polite letter, outlining your view of the issue, and your view on what should be a fair outcome. Rational arguments go a lot further that venomous ranting (just not as fun;)). If still no resolution, you can file complaints with various agencies (BBB etc.) and go somewhere else in the future. Good luck!

Shhh dont tell anyone....you will foil my plans

UPDATE- just got off the phone with the service manager, explained what they did before, what they say it needs now and nicely said I feel that this was a job they should have done last time and that I do not expect to be reiembursed for the battery I did not need but I would like them to not charge for this job. He is going to call me back...fingers crossed

My jumping this weekend depends on his decsion....
