PLFXpert 0 #1 August 18, 2006 OK, I'm getting a little irritated at all the old songs I learned, of course, when I was little and am just now finding out I've been singing the lyrics wrong all these years. I thought it was: You ain't nothing but a rebel and you ain't no friend of mine. Too bad Elvis is dead or I'd tell him myself my version is better.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. PLFKING 4 #4 August 18, 2006 Well, 'hound dog' and 'rebel' just don't fit together as well. Leave Elvis alone. He was just trying to entertain you. Don"When in doubt I whip it out, I got me a rock-and-roll band. It's a free-for-all."
kelel01 1 #5 August 18, 2006 Sorry, I misunderstood her post. I thought she was saying the rebel one was the RIGHT one. Never mind, Carrie. You're on your own.

Misheard lyrics part 2: I thought it was: "You ain't never cut a record" a reference to the booming R&B recording industry at that time. Original song was sung by Big Mama Thornton. Elvis did the famous remake 3 years later. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
PLFXpert 0 #9 August 18, 2006 It bothers me...but not THAT much. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I never would have thought I was wrong. Ahhhhh, the good old days of being young and innocent... Billy and I still debate whether or not the "L" is silent in "Pepto Bismol". I asked for some once and he said, "You mean 'Mollllll'?" And I said, "Absolutely not! I mean 'Mo'! The 'L' is silent!" Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
PLFXpert 0 #10 August 18, 2006 QuoteHound dog.................never catching a rabbitt would be bad. Being a rebel...........uhhhhh............yeah. I disagree... B/c he is declaring said dog is "no friend" of his. It wouldn't bother me if a friend caught a rabbit (so long as said friend released said rabbit unharmed). Certainly I'd be even more pleased if said dog never caught one. A rebel, however, could be trouble and thus might be "no friend" of mine. My version is better, thankyouverymuch.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
kelel01 1 #11 August 18, 2006 Oh, Lordy. Let's end that debate RIGHT NOW. You're wrong.

riddler 0 #13 August 18, 2006 Elvis wrote very, very few of his own songs. In this case, his song writer didn't even write it. The original was written by "Big Mama" Thornton, but I guess large black women don't garner the same respectability with young audiences that sleek, hip-shaking, rhinestone-wearing young men do. The lyrics about the rabbit (and pretty much the whole rest of the song) make more sense if you listen to the original: Big Mama !Trapped on the surface of a sphere. Anyway, here is my favorite messed up lyric: Bad moon rising -- CCR: Dont go around tonight, Well, its bound to take your life, Theres a bathroom on the right .Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. eeneR 3 #16 August 18, 2006 My fav mis heard lyric... Manfred Mann's Earth Band's, "Blinded By The Light" Misheard Lyrics: Wrapped up like a douche, another roller in the night.
