marcandalysse 0 #1 August 21, 2006 Hi, Looks like I may be working on a multimonth project near Mission Viejo/Lake Forest area. On a map, its just over the hills from Lake Elsinore! So any suggestions on where to eat, play, drive around? Is there a weekly hangout bar (like Altanta's Neighbors Bar weekly get together)? To get to Lake Elsinore, best way to drive on weekdays vs weekends? How long is the drive over Ortega Hwy? Thanks, send me PMs or response here will be appreciated! Hope to see you there! guppie01 0 #2 August 21, 2006 Hi Marc, The drive over the Ortega's is about a half hour - depending on whether you get regular traffic. Weekdays should be better, less lookieloo traffic. If you like Sushi, Kokoros in Lake Elsinore is very good (regular hang out for the DZ). Annie's is AWESOME for breakfast. That's about it for Elsinore. OC will have TONS of stuff to keep you happy. If you're interested in coastal activities (South - North): Doheny is a quaint lil beach - great kayaking. Laguna is pretty big into the arts. Some incredible cliff hikes. Newport has Balboa Island (fun park), great rest. and bars, and ferries over to Catalina. Huntington has awesome surf and so many activities during the summer it's a bit crazy. Good luck and have fun! g"Let's do something romantic this Saturday... how bout we bust out the restraints?" Raddest Ho this side of Jersey #1 - MISS YOU OMG, is she okay? marcandalysse 0 #3 August 21, 2006 Hey that's great to know! I didn't realize the Ortega road was that short a ride. Is there a commute travel time/pattern on weekdays? I may just drive to Lake Elsinore DZ tomorrow afternoon once I get settled in at Mission Viejo. Thanks! guppie01 0 #4 August 21, 2006 Most of the commute traffic is headed to OC in the morning and back over the hill in the evening. You'll be against the traffic so it should move smoothly. Be forewarned... on the weekdays (because it is primarily commuter traffic) they will haul ass on the mountain pass. 50-55 mph is not uncommon. There are some great hikes in the Ortega's as well. It may be dried up now, but there is a nice lil waterfall near the top (largest turnout area) - very easy hike into (or good repelling when the waterfall is dry). Oh, a must stop - just for sake of saying you did - The Lookout. It's on the East side of the Mountain pass, small dive rest., has a great view of Elsinore and the surrounding mountains. Not sure what you're intersted in seeing, but if you head towards Perris and keep heading East on the 74 you'll hit Idyllwild - another cool mountain area. g"Let's do something romantic this Saturday... how bout we bust out the restraints?" guppie01 0 #6 August 21, 2006 Quoteaahh Gia 55 is the speed limit on the Ortega!! Yes, but maintaining 55 through the corners and doing 70 on the straight sections is REALITY. Oh, and it doesn't scare me.... I'm one of those who hauls ass. I'm just trying to warn an out of towner that he may have someone on his ass if he follows the recommended speed. g"Let's do something romantic this Saturday... how bout we bust out the restraints?" marcandalysse 0 #8 August 21, 2006 That's pretty funny! I love mtn roads and can corner narrow turns with the best of ya ( although maybe not in an economy rental car!)....but it is nice to look at the views sometimes! Thanks, and please keep those suggestions coming! Marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

skydemon2 0 #10 August 21, 2006 I drive fast thru curvy roads because its fun and I like it I dont drive fast enough to slide off the road but probably faster than I should and no I have not reached billionare statis yet!! What I hate is when the speed limit is 55 and fuck heads are doin 25-35 mph and wont use the god dam turnouts for slow traffic, there is like 50 of them on the road for gods sake!!Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone! The best time to be on the roads is after restaurant early bird special is over and everyone has gone home! Now can we get back to the point of the post? Places to have fun and a good dinner around Mission Viejo part of Orange County....? And is that mountain road really the best way to get to Lake Elsinore? Thanks.... skydemon2 0 #12 August 21, 2006 For you down south it probably is otherwise you would have to come up the 5 to the 55 to the dreaded 91 then back south on the 15. the ortega while it is a pain sometimes it is the best route. Check out Irvine Spectrum pretty cool they got movies, dave and busters, food and shopping. Irvine meadows (verizon ampatheater I think) good place for concerts. If you wanna watch the ladies there is captain cremes and the library in the area. If you wanna go to the beach the 133 will take you right to laguna beach area, go north (5-6miles) to balboa pier and you have the boardwalk games/stores/fishing boat trips, go a little farther 1mile to newport and you have another pier and lots of clubs in the area, Mutt lynches (great schooners), blackies, beach ball, charlie's chili.Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone! matt1215 0 #13 August 21, 2006 QuoteAnd is that mountain road really the best way to get to Lake Elsinore? Thanks.... Ortega's definitely the most direct route. From Huntington (a bit north of MV, where I used to live) I go 55N to the 91E to the 15S to Railroad Canyon. A little more roundabout, but probably about the same timewise. The key there is not to go that way during rush-hour. You hit the 91 at the wrong time, you'll be there a while.
marcandalysse 0 #14 August 22, 2006 Bummer! I got into town early thinking I'd head over that infamous mountain road and get in a couple jumps at Elsinore...but they are closed today! I called Perris, sounds like its a slow day there... I'll drive along the coast instead.... Best bet is for me to stay over a weekend. So see y'all then! I have only done that road a dozen or 20 times and I wonder how bad the carnage would be if people did what you suggest. Already they crash a lot and when that happens, the speed drops to 0mph.
