johnsw71 0 #1 May 25, 2007 I'm new to the Gear and Rigging forum. A friendly hello to all. I've downsized to a Sabre II 150 and have realized that my Javelin J4 is a bit too large at this point, so I need to find myself a different container. I'm looking at also getting a new reserve (PD) that would be about the same or one size larger than my main. Since my first (and only) rig came complete, I've never have had to shop around so I'm a bit lost on where to start. I'm 6'1" and pretty lean, so I'm hoping to find something that would be suited for a taller guy that is also very freefly friendly. Would certain brands be better than others in this case? I'm open to advice if anybody has any recommendations. Thanks! John
kharkness 0 #2 May 25, 2007 I myself know that the mirage sys is a good container freefly friendly and fits a tall person. Im 6'1 as well and they fit me really good The Sky's not the limit, the ground is. Fear Nothing, Regret Less.
mnealtx 0 #3 May 25, 2007 why not have your rigger put a pad in the main tray?Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
damion75 0 #4 May 25, 2007 I'm guessing that most people will recommend whatever they have... and I'm no different. I do have a Mirage and it is a nice rig (6'0). I also have a Wings, which is my favourite. Wings do the 'Ext' (extended?) version specifically for tall people with small canopies. However, at your height with that canopy size, pretty much every manufacturer will be able to build you something comfortable - those are not unusual parameters. As for freefly friendly, most major manufacturers are these days. So it just comes down to taste... and wallet size...Enjoy! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus. Yossarian 0 #5 May 25, 2007 im 6ft3in, skinny as a rake, and my wings fits perfectly, the fully artic harness seems to be placed perfectly for my body shape as well
ryoder 1,590 #6 May 25, 2007 Find photos of the owners of the various manufacturers, and buy from the one with the longest beard. "There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
SpecialKaye 0 #7 May 25, 2007 pretty funny...wierd beard...LOL! Vector is a good container, good customer service. Inifinity is also great on customer friendly services. I had a friend that needed his harness refitted, they were great and charged nothing. I'm also on the fence with foaming your main tray, especially if you like your rig and are comfortable with it. how much is it swimming? have your rigger look at it and tell you if it's too much to foam...he/she can also give you some guidance on a new rig. good luck, Kaye
johnsw71 0 #8 May 25, 2007 Thanks for all the recs so far. I was hoping to at least narrow it down to a couple to start with, so you've all helped with that. My Javelin J4 is designed to hold up to a 210, so it is pretty huge. Thus I think I'd rather go with something smaller and less obtrusive (why the hell do we have to wear these damn rigs anyway -- they just get in the way! ) rather than add padding. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'll also be sure to keep beard size in mind when taking anybody's advice seriously -- very good point. John
Freefly710 0 #9 May 25, 2007 my first rig was a wings and i loved it...very comfortable. i now own an icon and it is by far the most comfortable rig ive ever jumped, but there is alot of good stuff out there...ask around and maybe ask your buddies at the dz who are around your size if you can try their containers. you cant go wrong with any of the name brands out there.
