Airport Security?

Recommended Posts

Just finishing up a vacation and took my rig to and from (carry-on). No real problems, but a little excitement in Portland. Seems they don't see parachutes too often and the supervisor got involved and lots of people came over to look at the x-ray screen to see a cypress...no big deal...BUT...

Anyway, both SLC and PDX let my rig through with the hook knife still on it in plain sight...:S

Things that make me say WTF??!!

Usually, maybe no big deal, but we're at orange right now??!! Oh well, thanks to good training the USPA did...no real problems with my rig, thank goodness!
To borrow a line from Squeak...MY LIFE ROCKS!! HOW'S YOURS??!!!

I don't think that hook knives themselves violate any of the criteria, but it's still risky in the fact that TSA doesn't see too many of them and may play it tighter. But, you've now exposed these guys to a rig and it won't be as big of a deal next time they see one. Thanks for taking one for the team
I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried

So the criteria where you're not allowed to take somthing that can be dimantled and used to slash someone throat open does not hold here?

Hk's don't come apart that easily and the blades are short-I can see letting one go.

And just because you thought of that, you're on my list of people that I never want to piss off:)

Hook knifes, have stanley blades in them, a jack the ripper can EASILY be opened up. Whilst I do think that most of the security stuff is a joke, I have no issue with hook knives being sent cargo

You could do that with 100's of items ALREADY INSIDE an aircraft. IF you know where to look. :S

yea, people scoff at those plastic serrated knives, yet they :| can easily inflict a fatal wound.
