squirrel 0 #3 July 17, 2006 have seen both fly, went for a ride in a trike instead(weight shift aircraft)...bought the trike. i was not crazy of the powered parachute...has to run full throttle all the time, and much more subjective to thermals. the trike has an 11 to 1 glide ratio, and can be equiped with an emergency reserve parachute (ballistic, BRC) ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? shropshire 0 #5 July 17, 2006 Yes, sir, what would you like to know? (I'm the the French Alps at the moment... just flew 50km on my PG - should have some great picture3s to share soon...) marcandalysse 0 #6 July 17, 2006 As posted back in January, Alysse and I both did tandem paraglides over the beach in Rio de Janeiro Brasil. I stayed in the air over 40 minutes at sunset, what a great view! But it was a little boring just hanging out there. Alysse wanted more emotion and they played with toggles and did spirals etc and her ride was over much quicker. Those guys stay in the air as much as FOUR hours and can put on the distance traveling too. There are many PG (called parapente in Brasil) and hangglider ramps in the mountains of Rio and Sao Paulo states. there are a couple great canopy flying websites that talk about paragliding...here's one: http://www.daedaluscanopies.com/glhistory.htm marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

TMorita 0 #10 July 20, 2006 QuoteDoes anyone have any experience in these? Yep! I'm a P3 paraglider pilot. I've been flying about 10 months, have about 60 hours of flight time and 180 flights. What do you want to know? Toshi
masterblaster72 0 #11 July 20, 2006 QuoteHere y'go.. Your pics make me want to learn paragliding...great stuff. Is it hard to learn? I like the idea of being able to travel 50K+, how cool... micro 0 #12 July 20, 2006 QuoteHere y'go.. hey tony... in that first pic, what you're steppin on... does that control the speedbar (which lowers your AOA to make you go faster)? I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
TMorita 0 #13 July 20, 2006 That's not the speedbar. That's just the footrest. The speedbar is more like a bar...it doesn't flex much. Toshi EDIT: duh, just looked at mine. The lower first bar of the speedbar is flexy, so that's probably what he's stepping on. Toshi

shropshire 0 #15 July 23, 2006 Hi... sorry for the delay. No, that's not my speed bar, just my stirup (for resting up on a long journey, it also helps my stability and weightshift turns. (.)Y(.) boyd38off 0 #16 August 25, 2006 My friend and I teach powered paragliding. We fly right from the dropzone. Since the weather's better for powered paragliding early, we usually swoop the pond before any jumpers. After we're done flying, we head over to the dz and jump the rest of the day. Best of both worlds! our website is Whitehawk PPGLife's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out and shouting, ".... holy crap....what a ride!"
