How do I print something from a wireless connection?

Recommended Posts

I have my laptop downstairs on a wireless router to the connection upstairs. The upstairs computer is attached to the printer...is there some kinda way to attach the router to the printer so I can print from downstairs?

It would make life easier! :)

Share the printer out from the desktop and then connect to it from the laptop. All of about 30 seconds work and you are printing. :)

Do you mean take the laptop upstairs and connect via cable to the printer and print, is that right?

I was hoping to find a way to not have to go upstairs to do it. It isn't for laziness sake, it's necessity. I can't leave my sons downstairs unattented.

Case in point, screwing around on dz.com and I didn't look out the window to check on them in the backyard for 15 minutes. The deck furniture and the deck wood are now COVERED in dijon mustard, creamed honey, and peanut butter. [:/]:(

Damn I have a lot of work to do tonight.

no, you'll want to share the printer on the computer the printer is attached to,

logon to the computer upstairs,

go to

start button

settings

control panel

printers

Right click on the printer that is attached. There should be a "sharing tab"

click on "share this printer" then give the printer a name.

Back on the laptop, do this

start button

run

type in the run box

\\computernameupstairs\printername

and hit enter

this will install the printer upstairs as a network printer on the laptop

Hey this is good stuff for me as well. But I have one question. How do I determine/make the name for the computer upstairs.

Also, does the computer upstairs have to be on WiFi? Mine is directly connected to the Broadband cable through the router.

Thanks for your help!!!!

to determine the name, right click on the computer icon and scroll down to properties. It should be there

How is your wireless connected to the internet, is that directly connected to the cable router too?

Hi Lummy,

Thanks for the info. I have a broadband antenna on the roof. The cable runs into the house, through the little cable modem, then to the wireless router which has a cable off that directly to the desk top computer. Of course the laptop is wireless, getting it's signal from the router.

Is everything cool with this set up for using the printer from my laptop?

Thanks,
Jack

if both the wireless and the desktop are connected to the same router, you should be fine.

If you have problems setting it up, PM me and I'll see what I can do
