I agree whole heartedly with liendive. He was not invited and we have alot of trouble with the locals invading us during the boogie. wouldnt be as bad if they did cause the problems they do so maybe a little retribution was in order.

maybe, looking at the locals as "outsiders" is why there has been problems.....?

We didnt always look at them as outsiders but the problems seem to get worse every year.

Honestly I'd agree if that were the case, but for the most part we're pretty friendly with them. Even when the young ones start getting aggressive, we're usually trying to defuse rather than escalate. Also, understand the term "locals" is being used rather loosely...these are usually 18-25 year olds, frequently from over 30 miles away.

That said, I didn't notice any real "local problem" this year. I didn't see any fights or any Porta-Potties turned over, and neither I nor my friends had stuff stolen from our campsites. :)

We stopped going to LP for a long time because of the locals that wanted to "party montana style" Guns, fights, stealing, grass fires, etc. This year we heard there was some hired security with radio for back up and maybe some other folks. to try and minimize the local factor.

We also heard a rumot that there was some concern about leaving the local passed out on the porch after the party due to the low nightime temps below freezing and chance of freezing to death.

We also heard a rumor the kid on the porch ended up with pink hair (on his head between his ears).:|

1 - There was alot of that. people were going to get blankets and covers for him when his "friend" finally showed back up and wandered him off home.:)
2 - Confirmed:ph34r:

I agree with the few on here that think the dick in the face was out of line. Thats just to far but thats me thinking from a straight guys point of view and Im not a straight guy. The marker and such was funny though.

Those locals have hurt the boogie so bad by trying to pick fights, being assholes to the women and giving the place an un-safe feel on Saturday night. Fuck the local assholes, it is the number one complaint about the LP boogie and one that the managment has been trying to address unsucessfully for a long time. They are the reason I go to bed early on Saturday night. I don't feel safe getting drunk around those guys.

How would you guys feel if you were in the middle of having a kickass party at your DZ and got interrupted by a bunch of drunk strangers with guns who were trying to pick fights?

If fucking with the locals gets them to leave, I'm all for it! Maybe we should just spike their drinks and pile em up out in the landing area where they're out of our way for the evening!

Jeesh, I hate to be a party-pooper too, but sticking a "dick" in someone's face... that's really awful. I have personally decorated a friend's face with makeup at a small party when he passed out in the middle of our circle, AND I took pictures, but the pictures didn't go passed the people who were there. We laughed and they were deleted. I guess I just don't share the same "skydiver mentality" that a lot of you have. To me, that is just wrong and disgraceful. I would have walked away. That is a total violation. Sad. [:/]

Sorry, I have absolutely no sympathy for people who crash parties, then cause problems. Even if this guy wasn't causing problems, there's just something unwise about crashing a party, and getting so drunk you pass out.

Anytime my friends and I have crashed a party, we're typically on our best behavior, and try to promote having a good time. Back in college, I learned that crashing a party and causing problems got you kicked out; or got your ass kicked, then kicked out... :( Pain's a great teacher.

The way I look at it, if this guy shows up next year, he'll probably be more welcome since he's paid his dues and contributed to a good time. That is, assuming he wasn't a problem before he passed out.

The sociology in skydiving is really fascinating! :D
Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!

Could be the reason for the opinion is ONLY because you don't HAVE a dick to put in someones face.:D:D

I unfortunately wasn't ably to attend this year but am planning on making next years 40th calibration. The locals do cause some problems and as a result security has been hired to control the after hour party. Particularly on the last Friday and Saturday night of the boogie. I personally almost busted a bottle or two over the heads of a couple drunk locals who had NO respect for skydivers (females skydivers in particular) or the traditions we have at certain events.

If someone passes out in the middle of the party regardless if their a skydiver or local you can count on a good hazing. As for the dick in the face a bit childish for me but hay, to each is his own. If he was peed on that would be to much. I personally think a prank involving body waist IS WAY OVERBOARD and deserves an ass kicking. Like the two people who decided to crap on the front porch of my tent and next to the car. Even wiped there ass and left the TP there. NOW, I don't know of a skydiver who would be that low so I'm assuming it was a couple of local yokels. Regardless of who it was if they ever pass out somewhere I hope they wake up with more than just a little make up and pen.

LP is a great Boogie and can get a bit crazy. Under age un invited locals looking for a party do cause a lot of problems. Whether this dude was cool or not he was just on the receiving end of a little pissing match. No harm no foul. He didn't get hurt just laughed at.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Here's the "mentality" of the people involved.

I've been going to LP for 16 years now, as have most of the other people that are tired of these locals. It used to be a great party. It used to OUR party. Over the years (mostly post 25th anniversary) the "locals" as we call them (actually underage kids from Kalispell) have managed to rain on our parade and take over what used to be a fun, skydiving event.

Over the last several years, women have had to deal with the "grab and grope" by 3 or 4 of these Kalispell kids when they're trying to get out of the bar (or anywhere, for that matter). We've had to drag coolers full of water up the hill to put out a fire before it took over the valley. We've woken up Sunday morning to find food strewn from one end of the runway to the other. We've found our coolers full of booze up in the hills with the drunken kids, along with broken camp chairs and other vandalism. We've had Crack Choir (an institution in the Prairie) drowned out by these darling "kids".

It's our party and we just want it back.

We were juvenile by drawing on this young lad? Absolutely. Could it be considered humiliating what we did to him? Absolutely.

But after you've spent years and years trying to reason with them, breaking up fights or diffusing the situation so there wasn't a fight, putting up with being groped by some drunken idiot because he thinks it's okay to do it because he's heard there are "boobies" here, you end up tired of trying so hard to be the "bigger person".

Did we stoop to their level of maturity by drawing on the kid, sticking a dick in his face and posting pictures? Yep. Sometimes I guess you have to do what you have to do to get a point across.

It's gotten to the point that as a woman, you can't even walk into the bar some nights unless you bring your own body guards. You don't go to the bathroom alone (although with the new bathrooms, you can actually take 10 of your closest friends) and you CERTAINLY don't even consider walking back to your camp at night unless you take a posse with you.

Perhaps by humiliating one person, we managed to keep 50 others from acting like idiots and ruining our party, especially when next year is the 40th.

Like Livendive said, this year was actually better than previous years for the locals behaving. I don't recall any fights or hearing of any thefts. They were actually better behaved.

Maybe our little "art class" early in the week sent a message to the rest of them for later in the week.

Then again, I guess we could subscribe to the "laws of Montana living" and just shoot 'em before they get down the road. But where would the fun be in that.

You may have overlooked one thing.
If this guy didnt take it as good natured "fun", he will be back next year with a hard on for a bunch of skydivers. It might not happen....it might.
Something to think about.

He just might. Actually I hope he does. His buddies found it funny when we managed to round them up to take him home. They laughed and said "he got what he got for passing out."

Like Livendive said, they were better behaved this year compared to previous years. We can hope.

But I still got groped. But that might have been Turtle. ;)

Everything you posted mean absolutely nothing if this was just a good guy who fell asleep, the fact that he may not have been a skydiver is irrelivant, if his only transgression was to not be awake.
Your post sounds like you are just trying to justify piss poor behaviour:| it's sad pathetic behaviour, and you lot are trying to justify it

I agree, Im so glad to have gone to Dublin, where both the locals and the skydivers are respectful to each other. The art is fine and funny but the dick (and possibly the pissing on him) thing was way over board and to put that picture up for all to see is flat out wrong. If that guy saw that picture and he is straight I can only imagine what he plans next year.

Was this "local" one who personally has caused problems for 16 years or was he stricktly an example to all the other locals? Is this an old school skydiving thing , new school or just LP ?

I can't speak for what has happened in the past, but I can say that Beth and I (more so Beth) had a bad experience with the locals (verbal assualt/blatent dis-respect). We were lucky enough that Turtle diffused the situation by quickly removing us from the environment. It pretty muched killed the night for me, I had no desire to go back to the party and have more dealings like that - I went to bed. [:/]

Hi G, but was this the guy, or was he the only available victim, due to his inability to respond.
So far all I've heard in this post is rationalisations for cowardly behaviour

Not that I'm aware of.... I didn't pay close enough attention because I didn't agree with what was going on. I do believe that there are better ways to handle the "local" situation - I was merely trying to give a specific example of the apparent ongoing problem there. How they chose to deal with it is their choice - it wouldn't necessarily be mine (as stated I went to bed). I also haven't had 16 years of this type of behavior - I think after that many years I'd be a lil pissy too.... :S

The DZ is pushing for better preventative measures - which through other's accounts ARE working. Hopefully both jumpers and locals alike will learn to play nicely together. (that's in my perfect lil universe :D )

Yes he was causing problems in the bar earlier.

If you have a better idea to contain the problem, I'm all ears. Seriously.

Ya know, had that picture of him had a set of boobies in it, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Believe me. We've tried everything to keep the peace. I suppose we could have gotten "violent" instead of drawing on him and taking pictures.

Next time I shall crop pictures better for the masses.
