Locals shouldn't pass out at the LP Boogie

Not that I'm aware of.... I didn't pay close enough attention because I didn't agree with what was going on. I do believe that there are better ways to handle the "local" situation - I was merely trying to give a specific example of the apparent ongoing problem there. How they chose to deal with it is their choice - it wouldn't necessarily be mine (as stated I went to bed). I also haven't had 16 years of this type of behavior - I think after that many years I'd be a lil pissy too.... :S

The DZ is pushing for better preventative measures - which through other's accounts ARE working. Hopefully both jumpers and locals alike will learn to play nicely together. (that's in my perfect lil universe :D )

g

It hasn't been 16 years of dealing with this. More like 7 or 8 or so. And yeah, after 8 years of dealing with that type of behaviour, it gets old. When you don't feel safe in a place that you get to feel safe in for 8 out of the 10 days, you get a little cranky.

And sorry that Beth had an issue with the "kids". Trust me, I know what that's like and it's not fun.

But I do hope things get better. As I said before, this year is better than it has been in years and I did speak to some of the "kids" and they're learning and know that's it's our party and they're just visiting. It just may take a little more time. Hopefully not too much.

Nice to see you there!

Same time next year??

This is so true! LP is one of the most serene beautiful places, and by far one of the BEST boogies I've ever been to. To have that peace and serenity ripped from under your feet is quite disturbing (especially when it's sexually derogatory).

For the most part the vibe of the boogie is very family orientated. It's truly a feeling of oneness with the jumpers and with mother earth (okay call me dorky on that - but that's really the only way I can describe it).

I will always promote and attend (god willing) this event!!!! :)
I can't wait to see ya next year!

So let me get this right... dude is passed out and you give him some Jager?? WTF --That is just plain stupidity. I do see some humor in the writing on the face etc... I was in a frat and certainly involved in that type of antics. Can't say that I put my genitals in some ones face.. but that is your choice. (I'm no John Holmes... but I certainly have a sense of pride after seeing Mister-micro)

I hope that after you violated this guy you at least made certain he was not able to harm himself and positioned him so he didn't aspirate his own vomit.

Do share. If you have a good idea to make sure our boogie is safe and we feel secure, I'd love to hear it. Seriously. Not being facetious at all.

I've seen it all there. Used to be really fun. Now, not so much but I have to admit, it is getting better.

Ummm ... you are a dork but I can't wait to see you next year! DORK!

Yeah, it's been my annual vacation year after year since the first time I went there. And it used to be so fun but I guess like everything in life, it's gettin' a little too big for it's britches!

Don't get me wrong, it's still fun and I wouldn't miss it for the world but having to put up with people that are only there because they heard there were "boobies" is just not fun anymore.

Hmmm .. think about it guys .. if we didn't have to deal with the "kids" as much, there might be more boobies ... just a thought ... ;)

His friends and a couple of our friends made sure he made it to a safe place that night. Talk of getting blankies for him on the porch was discussed and we were just going to get them when we found his friends.

All was good.

Hey Shell,

We'll put our heads together on this.... for now I have to run home and begin my move. I love this event and I know that you and many others put so much of yourselves into making it fun for us! THANKS!!! I would love to try give something too.

You're the best, DORK! We'll put our heads together and think of something.

Maybe this year (being's how it was better than past years) is an indication. Maybe it'll get better.

Guess time will tell

Good deal- unfortunately even if he was being an asshole- skydivers or the DZ would take the rap if he died or injured himself or someone else.

We're immature (at times) ... we're not assholes. ;)

Perhaps a fairly stiff "non-skydiver" Boogie registration fee would keep the locals away.

County (or the American equivalent) road ... hard to manage. Although a well placed 'broken' water truck might do the trick! ;)

When "you are not welcome here" doesn't keep them away, it's tough to imagine better results from "you are welcome here, but only if you pay us $50". I suppose a wrist-band policy could help, perhaps with free "vouched for" wrist-bands for non-skydiving friends & family of jumpers. It wouldn't surprise me to learn it's already been tried...I didn't pay that much attention the first few times I went.

Regardless, as 'Shell & I have said, it seemed noticeably better this year. Hopefully that trend will continue. ;)

That's kind of a big "duh!" You think we haven't noticed the inverse correlation between the number of locals and the number of boobies on display over the years? B| I certainly have! >:(;)

The dumb shit on the porch was being watched over very closely when it looked like he was going to upchuck[:/] give the man some room folks[:/] and even helped to the railing a few times. (rumors)

We also heard a rumor that some folks thought he was on more than booze.[:/]

As far as a stiff boogie fee to keep out the locals guess what we also heard a "rumor" that the road in front of the bar is a public road.

R.I.P.

Would help if there were no cameras around too, but that's the fault of skydivers too.

Not really. Long before the "kids" became a problem, there were many cameras there. Granted they weren't digital (that was invented WAY after I got this old!).

I have many a pic of me off the bar pre-digital.

Oh lord .. if that statment didn't age me, nothing will! :S:D

I can say 'true' to that rumour. I was there and yes, we helped him to the railing.

Not sure about that but I know we got him a glass of water or two (and a beer ... while we probably shouldn't have, he actuallly never drank the damn thing!)

I can't speak for what has happened in the past, but I can say that Beth and I (more so Beth) had a bad experience with the locals (verbal assualt/blatent dis-respect). We were lucky enough that Turtle diffused the situation by quickly removing us from the environment. It pretty muched killed the night for me, I had no desire to go back to the party and have more dealings like that - I went to bed. [:/]

g

I don't post here often but have to speak up as the atmosphere at LP has definitely changed over the past years.

Years ago – I felt safe walking back to camp on my own. For the past 4 (or more) years – I’ve typically left the bar early to ensure I had someone to walk back with. Certain friends have been known to stay up way past their bedtime to make sure I get back to camp safely.

I recall hearing about a girl getting assaulted a few years ago. That was the last year I had left the bar late & on my own. Drunk dude stopped me on the road.....I was able to point him towards the fire & was pretty alert as I walked back to camp. I know I would’ve been in trouble if this guy had tried anything. (I'm 5 ft nothing and not sure I could've screamed loud enough to be heard by anyone at the bonfire).

The next year - we stopped at Albertson's on our way to the DZ - and the young girl at checkout saw our skydiving t-shirts and asked if this was THE party weekend.....she'd heard what a great party it was & knew someone who had rented a bus so they could go out for the party.

Note - these were non-skydivers.....there were problems with fights & theft that year.....and the next year was the first where security was hired for the Saturday night.

We just want our party back and to feel safe again.

I've never felt threatened by a drunk skydiver - but the locals have either had me avoiding the bar or heading for bed really early. We even talked about switching the nights for the Cock Chorus & Crack Choir one year......and changing our traditions to throw off the locals is just wrong.

I was there when the local in these pictures passed out......and everything Shell said about looking out for his welfare are true. Several people helped him to the rail & supported him when it looked like he was going to lose it......blankets were being located when his friends finally came to collect him.....and I heard they were back on the DZ a couple of days later for breakfast.

I've been going to LP since 1996 - and if an incident like this helps to keep some of the local element away - then I'm OK with that. I'd like to feel safe enough to enjoy the party again.

Tina B.

Sweetie, I don't care that you retired from the bar as long as *I* get to see the girls every year. The only change I've noticed since 1999 is my view is always better now. ;)
