Scoop 0 #3 August 26, 2006 Hahahahahha, fuck that. Although the rule book just states they must be black and smart, so its a possibility! That'd raise a few eyebrows. Prob last only 10 mins though

Scoop 0 #5 August 26, 2006 Police community support officer. So pounding the beat all day every day talking to the community and chasing shitbags that try to make the residents life hell. Unfortunately UK police get so tied up with paperwork and more serious enquiries that they had to make a completely new role for this, which I shall be stepping into
 SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 August 26, 2006 I have been in two units where we were issued GSG-9's and I still have a pair that I like to wear when it's too hot outside to wear my Oakleys (especially my black ones) or my 5.11's. The only problem with GSG-9's is that the outer sole peels away pretty easilly and the nubs on the tread wear out quickly. Lots of places will resole them, but if you wear all the way through the outer sole before you take them in then you are screwed. They are incredibly light boots and have good traction on everything except for oily/slick surfaces. That said, they do offer more traction on slick surfaces than any of the three pairs of Oakley assault boots I have owned. Chuck
 Scoop 0 #7 August 26, 2006 Cool thanks, I was looking at the 5.11s but they just look to chunky to wear all day every day. I don't mind spending money to look after my feet but I wanna make the right choice. Only concern with the GSG9 boots is they don't look terribly professional, look like trainers almost, especially when we wear the trousers down rather than tucked in like you would with DPMs/BDUs
 warpedskydiver 0 #8 August 26, 2006 The Oakleys might serve you better as you aren't working in a hot climate and may see more rain than the average consumer. Oakleys may hold up better in wet environments.
 AggieDave 6 #9 August 26, 2006 Oakley boots. Pretty much the best you can buy. If you can't get them at a discount, they're VERY expensive. If you can get a LEO discount they're about $100. Or look at 5.11 boots. They're not bad either. Make sure whatever you get fits perfect. A little too big or too small will tear you up with a 12hr shift.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
 Scoop 0 #10 August 26, 2006 I checked the Oakley boot range out. I'm not sure I'd get away with the sole on them. The GSG-9s is pushing my luck enough without that strange serated pattern around the perimeter. Shame
 freeflir29 0 #11 August 26, 2006 I'm a cheap bastard. I have a pair of Wolverine hiking boots that I wear here in Iraq. They have steel toes so they offer some protection and they are quite comfy. Only about $70 and they have held up for the last 6-8 months of carrying 70+lbs of gear every day.
 Scoop 0 #12 August 26, 2006 Cool, they must be pretty sturdy then. Just for information I'm not allowed steel toe capped boots
 skycop 0 #13 August 26, 2006 I prefer Bates, I wear nylon topped ones in the summer and cordura topped ones in winter. Both are steel toe (USAF issue from my "other" job) I spend alot of time walking and they hold up well and are comfortable, plus for me they are free. FYI P.S. Just read the no steel toe statement. Bates and Rocky are still my choices "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
 LouDiamond 1 #14 August 26, 2006 If you are buying/paying for these boots I would not recommend the GSG-9 or Oakley boots as they are way too expensive for what is basically a tennis shoe with poor arch support. The only reason I wore them was that I was issued them for free. They sit in my closet now.I am guessing you will spend more time walking and standing than runnng and climbing in them so you will want a solidly built boot that won't fall apart in 6 months or look beat up. Bates/Rocky/Magnum make a good boot that comes in different models that are comfortable and hold up well to the type of work you'll be doing. They have several models that have a more traditional boot look and can be polished if you're not keen on the trainer look. They also come in 3/4 models that may be more appropriate and comfortable than a full military style boot and some offer steel toes. These brands seem to be quite popular with the LEOs here in the US as well as other Gov't agencies."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
 moodyskydiver 0 #15 August 26, 2006 I dont know about the requirements for LEOs but I convinced my husband to try Ariat boots and he wont wear anything else now (hes a Correctional Officer with TX Dept Corrections, they have to wear all black boots too).He was going through new boots like every 6 months since he does nothing but walk the runs and pickets and go up and down stairs all day and his Ariats have lasted him almost 2 yrs now. Most Ariats come in brown but you can special order them in black.Go to any western wear store and they should have them.Cost is about $69-$79 but they are super comfy, VERY durable and wont wear out easy. The Ariat All Terrain hiking boot is low profile and looks good/professional w/a uniform.Hes got several of the other COs converted to wearing them now.
