Describe an Unusual Fun Jump…

Recommended Posts

On Sunday I did my 400th skydive with jumpjunkie2004, waltappel, and dcgilbert. Walt suggested an ‘Oppenheimer.’ If you've ever seen the logo for Oppenheimer Funds you'll get a visual of what the center of the formation looked like. We exited in a round, stuck our right hands in the middle, and grabbed the wrist of the person to our right. The middle is what looked like the Oppenheimer logo. Everyone went into a full track, and we spun around until we couldn't hold on any longer. We came back together after the first rotation blew apart and did it again before breakoff. Woo Hoo!!! What fun!!! Thanks, guys, for making that jump so memorable and fun!!! :)

Jumping with a crazy, psycho Crown drinker and a had-to-be-talked-into-a-belly-jump crew dog at Skyfest.

(For all the rest of you...no, she was not drinking during jumping hours.)
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

My Patented "Two-way Rodeo Dirt-Ball Hop&Pop".:o:D

At my Home DZ, Hop&Pops (Really just a Lower Pass) are usually at 6000 or a little higher. Plenty of time to play and only play half price.

The Jump:
Roll out the Door in a Spoon position, Rear Spoon wraps their legs around front spoon and keeps their body close as possible. Front Spoon curls up in to a tight a ball.
It gets to spinning pretty damn quick. Nice tumbling, Spinning Mess. See how long you can stay on. Usually breaks apart by 4000/3500. Track away and pull.

That sounds awesome! We also used to play like that on H&P's at Perris. We used to do a "snake". Two people go out, one into head down with the other holding on the leader's ankles. The leader can fly that thing all over the place and you get pulled along. It's a lot of fun.

My Mr Bill jump with my hubby (then boyfriend). Left the plane with someone holding onto his pilot chute and held on during opening. Then he spun and spun til I could hold on no more and into freefall I went!

i'm a little confused.[:/] I looked up the oppenheimer logo and I get the right hand in and grab the arm of the person to your right. I get that. So your left hand has a high grip on the person to your right?? And then if you all started to track wouldn't you just collide in the center?
It's early maybe I am just not visualizing it correct.

No, you start out with high grips. One person keys and the right hand takes the right wrist of the person on the right, making the Oppenheimer logo. When that is stable your left hand is put down your left side, your legs extend straight out as if you were in a track. The result is a pinwheel action that eventually makes the formation fly apart... no problem in getting separation when that happens. :)

I'm gonna have to try this. Sounds like a belly horny gorilla and instead of legs it uses arms. Cool beans.

I didn't think a horny gorilla was supposed to spin. Don't you just hook legs together and beat your chest while flying on your back?

hells to the nah. You lock legs together on your back then you all have to agree on bringing one arm into your chest and the other stays out. If one person does left and another right it messes things up. Anyway, when you do this it will start to spin and if you like dip a hip down for some added spinning. It is tooooo much fun. Gets harder to do over 4 people though, 3 is usually the perfect number for it in my experience.
