AggieDave 6 #2 August 30, 2006 Neat video. Thank god no one was hurt or killed by this guy. Doesn't matter how good *he* is, in an uncontrolled environment like that its selfish and incredibly dangerous to do anything like that. Dangerous to every single person around, not even in cars. At those speeds people in buisnesses or houses along the route are in serious danger as well. Even the best drivers loose control sometimes. As a side note, isn't that about how fast the Germans made it through Paris?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." freeflir29 0 #5 August 30, 2006 I did some REALLY dumb shit as a kid in my 1970 Camaro but nothing quite that dumb. Bombing through those red lights and tight urban areas was a little nuts. Pretty good video but it comes nowhere near the one from Holland I saw once. That shows the speedo going to somewhere near 300KMH. Plus you can hear the police sirens occasionally before they fade away. I'll see if I can find it.
AggieDave 6 #6 August 30, 2006 QuoteWeren't the streets closed/partially closed for the filming ? Not according to the Blog posting. They very well could have been, but if they had been there was still a lot of traffic and pedestrians in critical turns and small streets. That would lead me to believe that no, they weren't. Especially with the couple of little cars that were legally (assuming) in the intersections as the driver blew through some red lights.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." lawrocket 3 #7 August 30, 2006 QuoteAs a side note, isn't that about how fast the Germans made it through Paris? No, that's just how fast the French ran. The Germans couldn't keep up. My wife is hotter than your wife.
AggieDave 6 #8 August 30, 2006 Quotehat shows the speedo going to somewhere near 300KMH. Shocked Plus you can hear the police sirens occasionally before they fade away. Laugh I'll see if I can find it. Atleast in US police cruisers have quite a bit of power, a lot of power and speed actually; however, a good sports car (no not the Mustang GT that your daddy bought you kiddos) can out perform a cruiser. A good solid persuit vehicle, not so much. You know, like the Cameros that Texas DPS use to have. However, the clinch pin is the driver. Most people that own a good sports car aren't good enough drivers. They might hold their own on a track in controlled conditions and they may have been trained to drive on a track, but they don't know how to drive on streets with potholes, dips and curbs. They use their car up before they can fully get away. And/or those pesky citizens that they put in serious danger tend to get in their way, so they'll wreck out or bump a few cars enough times/hard enough to limit their vehicle. I still haven't seen a sports car made yet that could out run Motorola.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." freeflir29 0 #9 August 30, 2006 QuoteI still haven't seen a sports car made yet that could out run Motorola. True, Luckily I never got caught. At close to 400HP and slammed on the ground so low my headers would scrape on a hard bump........I had a rather large advantage over the old Crown Vics that the cops drove back then. I would even have laughed at the "pursuit" cars that some departments have now. Glad I lived through my extra stupid years. For more cool vids like this look for the "Ghost Rider" series. He does hilarious shit like a "Mad Max" burnout in front of a police station to get the cops attention before he takes off.
BillyVance 35 #10 August 30, 2006 Near the end, you see the pigeons scattering for their dear lives.. I still remember that day being late for work (opening up a restaurant at 5 AM), it was still dark, but the faintest hint of light was coming up. Speeding down a road in my neighborhood and nobody out. In a split second I see a flurry of birds and feathers in the headlights and a THU-THU-THUNK! I knew it had to be birds but I didn't have time to stop. I did retrace my route back home and sure enough there were three very dead and battered pigeons in the road. PhreeZone 20 #11 August 30, 2006 There were a few ara that it almost seems as if a car was blocking the cross intercection at a few of those red lights. I saw tail lights to the right of a few of the major intercetions of a car sideways on the side street. Fast none the less.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
AggieDave 6 #12 August 30, 2006 Info on the formerly available pursuit camero. http://www.modernracer.com/features/chevroletcamarocop.html The new Charger with the police package is a really hot car as well. Royd 0 #13 August 30, 2006 There seems to be very traffic on the streets, so it must have been done about 5:00AM. The roads look relatively flat. Bullitt was kickass, and far more intense.
mule231 0 #14 August 30, 2006 i have got this video on DVD cost loads but it was highly talked about, it does not do it justice with the low quality, the full version actually looks a lot quicker and you can see the car moving (sliding) around much more
Michele 1 #15 August 30, 2006 Quote but they don't know how to drive on streets with potholes, dips and curbs I can't drive my car to it's potential...and doubt I ever will. I'm too aware of other idiots on the street/highway, and because my s2000 is so small, I worry that other cars don't see me. However, I have taken it to my own personal level (significantly less than that car can perform at), and there was nothing I could do to make it slide, over/understeer, or loose traction. Mulholland at 55 mph (sometimes at 60), and still couldn't get it to do anything other than hold onto the street and beg for more. And yes, I'm one of those weenies who will pull over the moment a cop turns on his lights. I usually don't get a ticket, either. It's been YEARS since I got cited, but I get pulled over about 3x a year. No chase for me. Scoop 0 #16 August 30, 2006 I think people make videos and DVDs like this (Getaway in Stockholm for example) because they couldn't quite make it as no 1 on the track. I've no doubt that some of these drivers have professional training and race experience but they don't impress me to be honest. Strange technique on entry to corners too! Enters in a really high gear then changes down heeling & toeing afterwards! WTF!? After reading more of the blog, I have to say there is no way that was an F1 driver! freeflir29 0 #22 August 30, 2006 QuoteI have to say there is no way that was an F1 driver! That was my thought. I am a professional driver. Certainly not an F-1 professional but I do have a couple courses under my belt and I do drive for a living. That guy was all kinds of wrong. Way too much speed in the corners for sure. Slow in fast out was the LAST thing that guy was doing.
