Yesterday Was Scam A Business Day

Recommended Posts

What is it with these people?
First thing in the morning someone tries to tell me that the price of toner for our copier is going up and would I like to buy toner since they neglected to inform us?
LOL I kindly informed the lady not to call back and shame on her for trying to scam people! That was an easy one.
Next...I received a call from the accountant asking me if I had added AOL to my private desk line. I said no.
She said...well you need to call this number and find out who added it to your phone. She then explained to me that she was told "for security reasons" the call had to be made from my phone. The accountant was already furious after having called twice and spoken with "Judy".The accountant was so angry that she actually used some fairly choice words while dealing with "Judy"( Hummm not a common name for someone that has an Indian accent.)
I asked her what the origional number was...a 900 number.(You've got to be kidding me!) She then gave me an 800 number and I gingerly dialed it and explained to the nice lady the situation.
She wanted to know my name and I told her it doesn't matter what MY name is as this is a corporation.
She then tells me that for "security reasons" she can not give me the name of the person that opened the account.
I fired back with...now wait a minute..both Judys that we spoke with said that if I called from the number on the account, you would give us the information.
Again she asks for my name....I again explain the situation and that she doesn't need my name.(can you say playing with your prey?)
I said M'am this is not AOL..to which she said Oh yes it is! I said no...no...it can't be, may I speak to your supervisor please? *click*

Well in the end our phone carrier was called and removed the charges. Unfortunetly, they said they can't stop the charges and so the accountant will have to call back every 3 months to have them removed.
With all these phones...UGH:S
So at the end of the day...look at your phone bills[:/]

Don't you find it sad that people are so dishonest that they need to scam people to make money?
Sad...sad...sad.

I like Neal Boortz' solution.
Of those who actually get caught, we have a random drawing and execute them on pay per veiw.

This is soooo true. When I was in college I had some long distance charges show up to places that I didn't know anyone. I called the local phone company and they said the long distance company that was charging them "specialized" in pay phones in prisons! Turns out that prisnors where looking up name and numbers on the U of MN website directory, then making long distance calls and having them charged to our phones. The only check that the long distance company did was made sure the name and number matched and that the phone bill was regularily paid. And this was so ramped that a girl on my hockey team had the samething happen to her the same week. There are hundreds of thousands of students and staff listed on the U of MN website! But how many people just go and pay their bills without looking at them.

Yep. And infuriating at the same time. It's a shame that in most circumstances, people like you and me generally don't have much recourse since alot of this goes on over the phone, in other countries, etc. >:([:/]

Y'all really should start pressuring your senators/congressmen/etc., as many other countries have much more stringent laws about stuff like this. For example, in the UK, stunts like this are illegal and the regulator can and does fine and shut down companies for trying it.

When we get a telemarketer calling we just keep on asking them to repeat the same BS because we've got a bad connection. Eventually they hanfg up and don't call back.B|

Junk Mail prepaid envelope:) Be sure to remove your info and fill the envelope with all the junk mail you've got lying aroundB|

We asked a telemarketer how may calls they had to make before they got a fish on the hook. 1-2% and they could make good $$$$$.

R.I.P.

I circle my name and write in bold letters: NOT HERE, PLEASE REMOVE FROM LIST

I can't believe how much my junk mail has stopped. In fact I get disappointed when there isn't any junk mail to send back out.
