freeflir29 0 #1 August 30, 2006 OK..........lets see if anyone from here can help. I'm looking for an operator's manual for a PRC-117E. I need to be able to get it electronically as I am in Iraq and mail would take weeks. Anyone know where I can find one. Google hasn't been much help. Sockpuppet 0 #2 August 30, 2006 PRC is that the UK (maybe other countries) Personal Role Communicator. We have some at my unit, I'll dig for a manual but dont hold out much hope. ------ Two of the three voices in my head agree with you. It might actually be unanimous but voice three only speaks Welsh. Should have one one on a hard drive somewhere!SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on? matthewcline 0 #5 August 30, 2006 Can you access AKO (Amry Knowledge Online)? or some one you work with? If so go to the TM section and you should be able to get the -10 and any other TM/ Manual you need. If it works out and you get to AKO just click on the link for Amry Publications and Forms then link away from there. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! ACMESkydiver 0 #9 August 30, 2006 You need that electronically? Good luck! All the radios I used in commo had 2-3" thick manuals that were housed in our secure area. Made for great reading at 3am on shift. We used Kenwoods mostly. 'Pricks' were for the 'pricks' in the field. freeflir29 0 #12 August 31, 2006 Quotewhere are you in Iraq? I live in the Erbil area but I travel extensively around Northern Iraq. From the Iranian border to the Syrian and Turkish borders and points south to at least Kirkuk on a semi regular basis. Not sure where Al Asad is off the top of my head. Scott..............Shuyddapp you! I'd be fine if some dumbass hadn't run off with the manual in the first place. Besides........I hate to ask those DICKS for anything. We don't have the best of relationships with them due to some friction over intel. Long story. To everyone else. Thanks for the help. I may in fact come up with one sooner than later. Well seeing how you can't talk without Commo and you depend on it, you better walk your happy ass down there and start asking around. If your pride keeps you from going and asking, let me know and I'll see what I can have sent over to you. Be specific in which manual(s) you need as there are several( I am assuming you need the quick reference guide and set up manual). Pm me with specifics."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
freeflir29 0 #14 August 31, 2006 QuoteWell seeing how you can't talk without Commo and you depend on it Oh I can use it without the manual. Years of experience will get me by. It's just that I need to teach the REST of my team how to use it. For that........I kind of need the manual. I'd like to teach them properly. PM is on it's way. Sockpuppet 0 #18 August 31, 2006 Quotewww.rfcomm.harris.com/products/tactical-radio-communications/an-prc117f.pdf It's one of these. I have the E model though. Ah. The UK army has these which are all PRC. http://www.milradio.com/Pictures/British/prc320.JPG I shit you not these are current issue radios. They are about twice as old as me and at least 40 years out of date. Hmmpf....at least you get nice sexy kit with new fangled things like LED displays. ------ Two of the three voices in my head agree with you. freeflir29 0 #19 August 31, 2006 Quoteat least you get nice sexy kit with new fangled things like LED displays. I remember when we got a few new PRC-104's with digital displays. I couldn't stand them. I liked the older analog models better. Of course when all you have is a straight HF radio you really don't need a high speed display. The 117E is A BIT more complicated. Actually the 117E is sort of "Old" by todays standards. There's MUCH better stuff out there. My client isn't big on buying ANYTHING much less comm equipment. They can't understand the need for such things as they never go outside the T walls unless it's to go on leave.
freeflir29 0 #20 August 31, 2006 Thanks everyone. I just finished downloading the manual. Seems a guy from my former job in the Air Force now works for Harris Communications. (The company that makes this radio) He emailed me a copy.
