ifall 0 #1 August 31, 2006 What the heck causes excessive earwax to build up? I am almost deaf in my right ear because of it. I used some Debrox and a que-tip last night to try to get it cleaned but it wasn't completely succesfull so I guess I'll give it another shot tonight. This happened to me about 6 months ago as well and I got it all cleared out and now its back in the same ear. Is it common for it to build back up so quickly or should a doctor be seen? karenmeal 0 #2 August 31, 2006 You may have impacted cerumen down in there. In other words.. you shoved your excessive ear wax way down in your ear. For earwax removal you may want to make an appointment with an audiologist. Be careful about trying to remove it yourself, it would be easy to rupture your eardrum. TrophyHusband 0 #4 August 31, 2006 try ear candling. they are these linen things dipped in bee's wax. you stick one end in your ear and light the other end. i don't know how it works, but it sucks all of the wax out of your ear. you can find them at your local hippie tree-hugger store. ifall 0 #6 August 31, 2006 Thanks guys/gals. I thought I may have done that because after the first time it happened I will use a que-tip to clean them out every so often. Not too much though because an ENT doc once told me it is a good thing to have. I have been VERY careful when I clean them out and don't want to do any damage so I think I will be calling the doctor this afternoon. Its bugging the CRAP out of me. Thanks!!! skymama 37 #8 August 31, 2006 There's some drops you can buy at the drugstore that softens the wax and then you use one of those rubber irrigator things (like what you use for a baby's nose) to put water in your ear to help flush it out. It's a little time consuming and you need another person to help, but it works. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

That is the stuff I have (Debrox), you can hear it working when you put it in but I must have a lot of build up because I did it last night. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. What I do is let it sit in there for about 5-10 minutes and then flush it out with warm water with that irrigator. Do I need to suck it out with that thing as well? BillyVance 35 #14 August 31, 2006 I would suggest going to your ENT doctor and have him/her vacuum the wax out of your ear. I had that done a few times when I was a kid due to excessive wax buildup from the earmolds of my hearing aids. The wax was sticking to my eardrums, muting what hearing I had left significantly. They carefully insert a needle into the canal and with a vacuum motor suck the wax out. It's a really weird sensation though! Almost like whooshing water being sloshed around, but one time it hurt like a bitch when the wax was pulled directly off the eardrum! chaoskitty 0 #15 August 31, 2006 If its bad enough that you can't hear, then you cant fix it yourself. You may have water trapped in there as well that will either cause, or is already feeding a fungal infection. Go see an ENT to get your ears cleaned out. If you ask your ENT why you have excess ear wax, they dont know why.. you just do. In my case, I have mild case of dermatitis in my ears which causes more stuff to have to move out of my ears. I got a scrip for these oil drops that does a good job of controlling it.
NWFlyer 2 #16 August 31, 2006 Doesn't even have to be an ENT, necessarily. Well I couldn't stand it anymore at work and came home and at least got it away from my eardrum with that syringe and now I can hear better but everytime I try to get it out the rest of the way it goes back up against it. I had gotten it all the first time it happened but no go this time. About to make an appointment now. Thanks for all your responses!!
