CitationJet overshoots runway, lands in bay

Recommended Posts

... on YouTube.. long video, but worth it... pilot lands DOWNWIND in RAIN, w/ insufficient runway length, "loses brakes" per NTSB report, skids off runway and in to bay. Plane is evacuated but then left engine spools up "on it's own" and starts "taxiing" itself around the bay for a little while. Scary, yet hilarious.

Dayum.

Didja catch the call letters/signs/whatever?

OY-Jet.

Oy. No shit.

I am impressed with the plane, though...solid, solid, solid. I was wondering if it was gonna fly off the water there for a few moments.

Oy.

Wowza! In reading the comments of some of the posters on that site...it makes our "Squeakers Corner" look pretty tame:S

Hi BB

Thanks for the tip. Gotta go back to the site and pick up some pointers for comments in SC.B|

Does anyone know if/why the planes engine ramped up out of the blue like that... :S

It was in some kind of auto-start mode. That way, if an engine conks out during takeoff or landing, the plane's systems will automatically attempt to restart the engine. This takes some load off the pilot who may have other worries at the time.

Unfortunately, the pilot forgot to completely turn off the engines when evacuating...

OMG...the poor pilot!

How much does a jet cost?

Can you imagine?

Losing your job and being responsible for costing your company so much money!

Eek!

The NTSB report said the pilot had a private pilot license. Therefore he/she can not fly commercially, that is, not as a job. This leads me to speculate that the pilot owned the airplane. I think your statement "the poor pilot!" should be "the rich, lucky, stupid pilot".
