LisaM 0 #1 September 5, 2006 The definition in my son's History book of superstition went something like: "to believe in something due to ignorance." Huh?? Give me a break! I am into knocking on wood. The last time I didn't do that I mumbled something abou hoping my husband doesn't break anything on a jump because his mother was watching and hadn't been out in years. I did not knock on wood and an hour later we were in the ER and he now has 2 plates and 14 screws holding his ankle together. Yesterday I told my husband that I rarely have traffic issues on the morning because I leave so early. Guess what, traffic was HORROBLE today. Because I like to knock on wood, this makes me ignorant?? (Keeping in mind this is a religious school so a religious history book). Are you superstitious? Share your superstition! ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

SkydiveStMarys 0 #4 September 5, 2006 I knock on wood when I don't want to jinx myself. Such as me making the statement... "Things are really going great and yeah, the car is running perfect, knock on wood." And then I usually go knock on a piece of wood. Though sometimes it is plywood and does that count? I use that saying alot because my mother used to/says it alot. Do I believe it? Naaawh not really, but to be safe.. BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude. Lindercles 0 #5 September 5, 2006 That all depends. Do you truly believe that it was your lack of knocking on wood that caused your husband to get hurt?
DJL 235 #6 September 5, 2006 On the topic of superstitions, if I'm trying to get rid of a girlfriend then I go to her house and in her presence sacrifice a chicken in her living room and draw a pentagram on the floor with it's blood. Works like gangbusters."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
LisaM 0 #7 September 5, 2006 I truly think that it is an awful strange coincidence that this kind of thin happens so often. I'd rather take 2 seconds to knock on wood and be safe. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

LisaM 0 #10 September 5, 2006 Agreed! I do feel it is the thought that counts. I will knock on my own head (heheheh) if there is no wood nearby. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

SpeedRacer 1 #12 September 5, 2006 I've never seen the point of superstition. If you know it's all actually bullshit (setting aside the odd coincidence), why bother with it all?? Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
LisaM 0 #13 September 5, 2006 I suspect it is all bullshit. Too many happenings make me wonder if it really is..... it's just odd. But really, no need to get mad over it! ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
