LisaM 0 #1 September 5, 2006 Who here has their Masters Degree? What is the schooling like? Yes, it is different depending on the concentration, but in general. Is it a lot of paper writing and other boring stuff? Do you feel it is worth it and helped your career? Mine would be in Computer Science. Just curious.... ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder? irisheyes 0 #2 September 5, 2006 I have mine. I loved it.
 dancingdolphin 0 #3 September 5, 2006 I finished mine last year and loved it. As it was in my area i found it really interesting as opposed to other courses i took where only 1/2 was relevant and a paper work exercise. There is paperwork but i was able to relate it and use it directly with work which made it all really useful and interesting. Made great friends too...as everybody was very sociable I needed an MSc to get recognition for work. Good luck! The first was not necessary for my work but was beneficial/ The latter will be necessary as I want to work in the field of Child Pyschology. I enjoyed the classes and yes, it was a lot of writing. At first that was difficult, but it got easier as I did more of it. It was seldom boring. steveOrino
 jshatzkin 0 #5 September 5, 2006 I finished my masters 3 years ago,..and yes, a lot of writing, presentations and for me, a 1200 hour internship. The master degree prepares you to think, analyze, derive theories, teach, research, publish and give something back to the field! The good news,..no 'right or wrong' answers. You just have to be able to back up your ideas. Bachelor programs are more for content and base knowledge, whereas in the masters programs you learn that there are MANY perspectives. It's more about process than content. If you are getting your masters in an area in which you are interested, than it is far from boring. I fantasize about going back to school. I miss the constant intellectual stimulation. In a job, you become more involved with day to day issues, and intellectual growth comes on your own time. Just my experience! I say go for it!Jen
 brianfry713 0 #6 September 5, 2006 I've got a masters in Computer Engineering and have done two years toward a Ph.D. I'm guessing with CS you wouldn't have to do too much paper writing besides commenting code and a README file. Some classes I've taken have been boring, others have been interesting and a ton of work. It all depends on the teacher and how much you want to put into it. I think it was worth it because I've always wanted one and I enjoy school. I started working right after I got my B.S. and didn't get a raise or anything after I got my M.S., which I was a little upset about, because the normal raise I got that year sucked as well. Hopefully it'll help if I ever switch jobs in the future. I enjoyed most of the classes better than the ones I took to get a B.S. because they were a lot more practical and tied in well with the stuff I was doing at work, so I can understand both work and school a lot better and get the big picture. After I started flying and jumping, I'm not as into school anymore though. I think if you work for a bit and come back for the degree, you're a lot more mature person and get more out of it. Coming back initially was a mathematical proctological exam of sorts (I'm an engineer), but it really was interesting to study again. I'm really glad I did it and got a ton out of it.
