steveorino 7 #1 September 8, 2006 Ryan Howard is going after Roger Maris's record of 61 homers (Howard has 54) Yep, I said Maris's record, Not Bonds', not McGuire's, not Sosa's. They were all tainted with steroids. Hopefully, this is the real deal! steveOrino

What happened to the asterisk after 61? Chuck
steveorino 7 #3 September 8, 2006 IF there ever was a need for the *asterik -- it should be on Bonds. (and McGuire & Sosa) steveOrino

Maris 'got' those homers, fair and square. Wasn't that asterisk thing just because the Mantle fans couldn't handle his being out-done. It sure has kept the fans talking over the years. That Yankees team was something! Chuck

Sort of like comparing 14 game NFL season records to 16 game NFL records. steveOrino

lawrocket 3 #8 September 8, 2006 I think it's amazing because he is getting so little coverage. It's like he's under the radar with it. Maris's family speaks openly of their support for him because they don't see anything that indicates that he is cheating. My wife is hotter than your wife. murrays 0 #9 September 9, 2006 He just poked out #55 (Friday Sep 6) in the sixth inning and #56 later on!!! If you throw out the steroid records of McGuire, Bonds and Sosa more home runs than 56 has only been done 8 times according to this list.
