kbordson 8 #28 August 17, 2006 QuoteI've tried watching it a few times, but never really got into it. The main character is a bit too "over the top" for me. Agreed. He's just a bit too callous and .... mean. Yes, he says what we might sometimes be thinking, but he's way too bitter. (and there are some other things in that show that are a bit annoying - like internal medicine docs doing brain surgery and deliveries and Level 4 containment stuffs and B&E.... doesn't really happen that way)
PLFXpert 0 #29 August 17, 2006 Aaaaa, Fishy. Fishy. Fishy. Fishy. OK...back to "House". Ya'll MUST promise me to watch this Tuesday's episode (rerun from 2nd season). Pretty, pretty please with a cherry on top!Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
PLFXpert 0 #30 August 17, 2006 Well, of course I disagree. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on one's viewpoint, I think there are plenty people like this in reality; especially in the "genius" sector of people. I have a few geniuses in my family (passed away now) that were quite over-the-top themselves. But, that's my arguement if you're looking at him literally. Figuratively, I enjoy what he (House) represents and the other characters as well.Of course, the main reason I love it, however, is the never-ending sarcasm.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. PLFXpert 0 #31 August 17, 2006 QuoteHe's just a bit too callous and .... mean. But, is he really mean? He certainly comes across that way, but his intentions are arguably far from such. Also, in a sense, his callousness seems to work for getting to the real root of the problem vs. another "nice" doctor who might overlook a detail or two and leave the patient all warm & fuzzy, but not cured.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. kbordson 8 #33 August 17, 2006 "Is he mean"? Sometimes. Patients go to the doctor to get cured AND feel better ("warm & fuzzy" if you must). I just think he's a bit too bitter. Maybe this next season will bring some humanity back to his character. (near-death experiences sometimes will do that)
PLFXpert 0 #34 August 17, 2006 I'm not disagreeing necessarily... I just think it's funny the exceptions people (self included) make when it's to their benefit. For example: If I feel I'm being treated inappropriately I would likely stand up for myself; depending on the severity maybe even press charges. And here's this talented doctor who happens to save my life, whereas others might have/probably would have failed. I don't think I'd care much that the talented doctor was a "jerk" to me in the process of. Certainly it'd be preferrable to have a nice doctor save my life in this situation. But that would be having my cake and eating it too, now wouldn't it? Point is, very few people/things in life are w/out their downside/faults.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
