scrublink 0 #35 September 15, 2006 Walt, I can relate to the hating of holidays. I haven't celebrated the holidays (thanksgiving-christmas period) since I was about 12 with a couple of exceptions. A couple of times I thought I would fake it for the sake of "wedded" bliss etc. That usually ends with me telling people to go fuck themselves straight out and no mincing of words. I don't wish to deal with these people the rest of the year and now I am supposed to pretend I like them? I have found that in the last 10-15 years the best thing was to tell people that "I have other plans" or that "I have to work". Yep, I lie to them. Keeps me sane and probably keeps the bastards safe as well. I think its time for you to just say no. Don't cave in, don't go anywhere, don't invite anyone to your place. Just say no. It detracts from the REAL meaning of Christmas. Instead of fussing about buying THE PERFECT GIFT for adults who don't need it, we take the money we would have spent on mall-detritus, and give it to charities that help the poor both in our own communities and around the world. Freed from that BS, we can then just focus on having a good time visiting one another. That's a much better way to spend the holidays! Fuck the gift-buying crap, except for maybe the children in the family. Instead focus on being together with your family! littleskycrab 0 #47 September 15, 2006 I have hated christmas since I was a small child....... strange, I know. Christmas is just too damn commercialized. I couldn't give a rats ass if you want EVERYTHING in the Sears catalogue, be thankful for what you get and the people that you get to spend time with. You would think that that would have changed when I had children, but no, I just hate the holiday even more now because I HAVE to PRETEND to like the "what did ya get me" bullshit! I'm lucky though, my family is the funniest bunch of crazies (and they know I don't like holidays) and we usually spend time laughing like a bunch of hyenias on crack. There's also been a stuffing fight too. I'll avoid telling you what we did with the Turkey, but I will say that my Aunts neighbors cringe when we all arrive on Christmas day and that if you use ENOUGH fireworks that bird will fly to China! I can say that I do like Thanksgiving, just because I love food! My idea of a great holiday is spending it in comfortable clothes, with entertaining people (no I don't mean strippers, but what a change THAT would be), yummy grub and some funny shenanigans. Oh, wait, that's Saturday night at the DZ.............. sweet! I get my perfect holiday every weekend...............Next time a sunrise steals your breath or a meadow of flowers leaves you speechless, remain that way. I believe that any gathering that someone is pressured into attending (whether its internal pressure or external) is not worth going to. Fuck the holidays.
