quade 4 #1 September 15, 2006 Ok, it's not an actual "skydive" from space but it's pretty freekin' awesome. http://www.nasa.gov/mp4/157765main_srbiPod.mp4 It's video from the Space Shuttle's solid rocket booster separating at about 150,000 ft, freefalling, parachute deployment and water landing. What I found AWESOME was that there is a microphone attached to the booster and you can hear the stressing, whistling, other noises associated with the booster tumbling in space, bits of debris hitting the booster and re-entering the atmosphere. Really, an awesome piece of footage and sound. Additional information about the SRBs HEREquade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

AggieDave 6 #5 September 15, 2006 Quote that must have been one hell of a basement they filmed that in. According to Mother, it was a soundstage in Arizona, actually. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
jceman 1 #6 September 15, 2006 That was indeed awesome -- the sounds and sights. Realy got a charge out of seeing the second object splash down -- it doesn't really look like the other booster, wonder if it is the cover from the parachute compartment? Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
jtval 0 #7 September 15, 2006 it looked like a booster to me. long and cylindrical with at least one parachute attachedMy photos My Videos
jimmytavino 16 #8 September 15, 2006 wow pretty cool ....so then,,,, these boosters have a "hand-cam"?? Dd I notice what appears to be the "launch plume" off on the horizon, as the booster rocket is falling??? How did the other booster stay in frame during the early part of the fall.? Is that camera able to be remotely controlled in order to pan and tilt as needed??? Looks like the 'cypres' worked.. It was cool to see the other booster land, as well, How did they stay so close to one another???.. aren't they just tumbling during re-entry, or do they have some kind of guidance controls, built in?? thanks quade... jmy
 Mostly_Harmless 0 #9 September 15, 2006 QuoteThat was indeed awesome -- the sounds and sights. Looks like the upper compartment to me (not long enough to be the other booster).
