The requirement is that you score in the top 2% (98th percentile) of whatever test you take. MENSA recognizes many different test but they do not share the same scale. There is no set IQ number as different test have different ranges.

Jumpah 0 #68 January 10, 2006 From their website: QuoteMembership in Mensa is open to persons who have attained a score within the upper two percent of the general population on an approved intelligence test that has been properly administered and supervised. There is no other qualification or disqualification for membership eligibility. The term "IQ score" is widely used but poorly defined. There are a large number of tests with different scales. The result on one test of 132 can be the same as a score 148 on another test. Some intelligence tests don't use IQ scores at all. Mensa has set a percentile as cutoff to avoid this confusion. Candidates for membership in Mensa must achieve a score at or above the 98th percentile (a score that is greater than or equal to 98 percent of the general population taking the test) on a standard test of intelligence. livendive 8 #69 January 10, 2006 QuoteQuoteSo... if 100 is the average on the IQ test, what can we correlate to this IQ range? I know my Stanford-Binet score as well as my range on other professionally designed intelligence tests. Using that, I tried to figure out the answer to this question last night as I was going to sleep. I couldn't make it work. And although I was the one who proposed this question, I find I cannot answer it the way it has been posed. The easy way is to just go with percentile of the population. QuoteMy personal theory is that without EQ, IQ doesn't doesn't help one much. There are plenty of brilliant, unsuccessful people in the world. Every day thou daffest me with some device... Perhaps it's just me, but most ridiculously intelligent people, I find, are quite screwed up in one or many other arenas I had a *friend* whose family member had a photographic memory and thus scored insanely high on all tests. I belong to enough self-selected groups of oddballs already. Read The Know-It All for a fun take on intelligence vs. knowledge. The author decides to read the Encyclopedia Brittanica cover to cover. He does a lot of little side things, too, like interviewing people in Mensa, interviewing people with off-the-charts IQs, etc. Lots of fun (and a peek into the lives of Mensans). Thanatos340 1 #75 January 10, 2006 I was was walking across campus one day when a MENSA Member rides up on a shiny new Bicycle. "Where did you get such a great bike?" I asked. They replied "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said 'Take what you want.'" I nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit." (OK.
