A: An Auburn funeral

I'm not usually one to complain about officiating, but they were just blatantly wrong THREE TIMES in the final minute, all in Oregon's favor.

QuoteDid you notice how Oklahoma got totally HOSED by the officials this weekend? And by proxy, Texas also got HOSED.

And LSU could make the same complaint getting hosed in the Auburn game. There was a passing interference overruled because the ball was tipped.
LSU had double the offensive yardage over Auburn, and lost. My hats off to Auburn, but that was a questionable call thats open to interpretation.
Understand, of course, that Oklahoma is my nemesis. It never pains me to see them lose. But more than that I care about the state of college football, and referees should never have that much input into the outcome of the game. There is an investigation going on as we speak.

Ask them to go back and re-examine the end of the Michigan - Nebraska bowl game last year, too.
What's the point in having instant replay if you're STILL going to blow the call ? And I won't even start on the obvious need for a college playoff system.

About all that can be done with these investigations is discipline or fire the officials involved. That happened last year I believe, in a couple of SEC games, but I don't remember which ones.
At least we have instant replays to depend on so that any wrongs have a chance to be righted.
A couple of years ago Alabama played at LSU. We were driving for the go-ahead TD and threw a pass into the corner of the end zone. An LSU defender pushed the Bama receiver down and intercepted the pass. It was right there for all to see on TV. I just don't understand how the referee behind the play didn't see it.

But in the case of the Oregon v. Oklahoma game this weekend, there is no grey area. Oregon kicked an onside kick. The rules state that the ball must travel 10 yards before Oregon players are able to touch it. It traveled 9 and was touched by an Oregon player. That's not a hard call. 9 < 10. On top of that, Oklahoma recovered the ball. The ball came to rest in the hands of an Oklahoma player. That's not a fuzzy area either.
And yet despite those two facts, Oregon was awarded the ball.
This is a situation in which someone needs to get fired.

QuoteI understand that some calls are hard to make, pass interference being one of them. There's always some contact and the line is sometimes not clear, and especially without instant replay, as in that Bama v. LSU game you referenced, the call can be a difficult one.

Well, the PAC-10 did something about it, but not nearly enough: http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/5979210?FSO1&ATT=HMA
Q. Why does Ohio State play on artificial turf ?
A. To keep their cheerleaders from grazing at halftime.
