Each one controls half the body, and they somehow manage to coordinate things like riding a bicycle, even though Abby controls one leg and Britty controls the other. Well, we each have two separate halves of the brain, connected only by one central point (the corpus callosum.) Our left hemisphere controls the right half of our body and vice versa. But we've learned to use that connection to make it seem that we have only one brain, even though the two hemispheres do some very separate things. What's even more amazing is when that connection is cut - when we really _do_ have two separate brains each controlling half our body - we can still learn to walk, ride a bike etc. There are some oddities (i.e. sometimes the two halves will argue and one side will refuse to walk or something) but by and large everything still works. micro 0 #15 September 21, 2006 there are some other (albeit much more minor) neural "bridges" b/t the cerebral hemispheres, but the corpus callosum does get all the press. interestingly, there has been cases of people who have lost one of the cerebral hemispheres in adulthood who have maintained most of their major capacities, w/o much noticeable deficit.
