Strange Fears and Phobias

I hate going over bridges :|

I get freaked out when I'm near cranes. Living in New York City they are hard to avoid.

There is nothing on the list about fearing unicorns. I don't like those. They are hideous! Years ago, Ringling Brothers promoted the first and only known unicorn on the planet and they ran the ad EVERYWHERE and on tv ALL the time. Some jackass took a poor little goat and grafted a horn onto the middle of its little goat head and made him stand there looking...well, hideous.

The Sunshine Skyway bridge goes across Tampa Bay south from St. Pete.

A few years ago, a freighter hit it and knocked it down.
A guy was driving his truck, reached the top, and there was no "other side". His truck went off, hit the deck of the freighter and bounced into the water.

Miraculously, he lived. The occupants of a bus were not so lucky.

That is the essential problem. As you approach the top, you can't actually see that the other side exists. In this case, you would have been right.

It pays to be cautious.

Defined as "virgins or young girls", each year this surprisingly common phobia causes countless people needless distress.

To add insult to an already distressing condition, most virgin phobia therapies take months or years and sometimes even require the patient to be exposed repeatedly to their fear.

Exposed repeatedly? Ahh...the cruelty.

We believe that not only is this totally unnecessary, it will often make the condition worse. And it is particularly cruel as virgin phobia can be eliminated with the right methods and just 24 hours of commitment by the phobic individual.

24 hours ? Geez...I'm wheezing after 24 minutes.

Known by a number of names - Parthenophobia, Fear of Virgins, and Fear of Young Girls being the most common - the problem often significantly impacts the quality of life... Our treatment involves no drugs.

I wonder how they talk them into it? :D

Capgras' syndrome: believing there's an impostor in the family

The Capgras delusion or Capgras' syndrome is a rare disorder in which a person holds a delusional belief that an acquaintance, usually a close family member or spouse, has been replaced by an identical looking imposter.

Wouldn't that suck ?

Wouldn't it suck worse if everyone thought the impostor was you ? :D

Wouldn't it suck extremely bad if they were right ? :o
