freeflynick 0 #1 September 20, 2006 Who can tell me what kind of plane this is? (see photos, obviously!!) Seen flying around central China. Since there isn't a single DZ in China, I tried to get closer to talk to the pilot about getting a ride to altitude, but the soldiers there wouldnt let me near the thing.........maybe next time............. I love the condor-inspired wingtips!! Hobbes: "How come we play 'War' and not 'Peace'?" Calvin: "Too few role models."

kkeenan 14 #4 September 20, 2006 Antonov AN-2. Originally Russian, this may be a Chinese-built copy. (Kind of like their latest spacecraft.) Kevin_____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
angrypeppers 1 #5 September 20, 2006 Looks like an Antonov AN-2 to me...never saw wingtips like that though! ChrisBurn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.

piisfish 140 #8 September 20, 2006 Y-5 is the chinese copy of the An2 www.airliners.net/open.file/0450578/M/ www.airliners.net/open.file/0654747/M/ but not all Y5 have these condor wingtips. I suppose it would be some kind of vortex generator for even lower stall speed.. Or it can be a condor disguise scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
wildblue 7 #9 September 20, 2006 Has anyone pointed out that this is the Chinese version of the AN-2? I think they call it a Y-5B. And I think the winglets reduce drag by moving the wing tip vortex outboard.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

There was one in San Diego 10-15 years ago that the owner was trying to get certified to fly jumpers...it didn't work out, but a few of us made an UN-certified jump! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
Lindercles 0 #15 September 20, 2006 Yeah, the floors of some airplanes can be pretty slippery. It's amazing how often people just fall right out of them.
airtwardo 7 #16 September 20, 2006 QuoteYeah, the floors of some airplanes can be pretty slippery. It's amazing how often people just fall right out of them. Yeah....I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS! I got to jump-I mean 'slipped' out of a Ford Tri-Motor during and air show in Fla. once! I knew the owner who was giving rides, well SELLING rides during the day, prior to the performance part of the air show...I got to fly it up to altitude, then accidentally stumbled out the back door while 'checking on the passengers' ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
